Does anyone know a good place to find refrigerator magnets?

Asked by Dr_Dredd (10540points) December 31st, 2009

When I was in San Diego a few years ago, I found a cute shop in Seaport Village that sold refrigerator magnets. I collect these, so I bought a few and took them back to my apartment in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, they got lost in the move to upstate NY. I’ll be going back to San Diego soon, but I don’t remember the name of the shop. Can anyone give me a hand?

Alternatively, if anyone knows of stores like this on the East Coast, that would be helpful, too…

I usually find them under the refrigerator.

I usually find them at Tourist Information Centers or at “tourist attraction” Gift Shops. Often “Card & Gift” stores have them. Hubby & I always buy a fridge magnet when we go somewhere on vacation that we really enjoy, such as a classic car museum, rather than a “state” magnet.

If you want to consider buying online, take a look at The Web’s Magnet Store www.fridgedoor.com/

Thanks, @Snarp, but I’m not looking under my refrigerator for love or money. :-)

And thanks also, @sliceswiththings and @BraveWarrior. I’ll have to try those!

The “touristy” places are crammed with them. I have at least one from every airport I’ve ever passed through. Odd events like Star Trek conventions, antique motorcycle shows, VVWCA (Vintage VW Club of America) and their various chapters. Even military units have them made up. You might be able to replace missing ones via some site like e-bay. We had so many of the damned things that I had a metal panel placed above the refrigerator doors to take up the excess. Thet are all in a big cardboard box now. I took them down because of the memories they stimulated.

Truck stops. I did a lot of road travel in the 80’s and 90’s and they had some very original magnets and other tchochkis,

Sea Port Village is still there, and there are several stores that carry them. You can find an up to date guide to the stores here.

Nearly every city has a specialty tourist destination, usually called “old town” or something like it, with wonderful goodie shops.

Ebay seems to always be an option. ;)
