About 5 years ago my mum was suffering from a serious bout of depression. When she wasn’t depressed she loved a good party but this particular year she wasn’t interested. We had been invited to a party but, despite the fact that I thought it would do her good, she really didn’t want to leave the house and so we stayed in together. We sat on the sofa, under a duvet and watched Friends for about 5 hours straight. Despite my mums depression she seemed to really enjoy that new years.

Three years ago my friends and I decided to go to a party. Turns out it was suppppper lame and just a bunch of drunken guys trying to get girls to sleep with them. Not fun at all. So instead we went home to get some blankets and sleeping bags, took them to our old junior high school, climbed to the roof and camped out. We just looked at the stars and talked. We had a few bottles of champagne and one of the guys brought his brothers iPod player so we had some music. There were about seven or eight of us up there and we were all really good friends. At midnight instead of kissing we all took a big sip of champagne. (Later on, some of us ended up making out anyway.) That was just a fun, laid back night. There was no shouting, there weren’t too many people, no cops being called, no drama. Just fun.

It was a great supper and dance at a hotel. It was very dressup- we had a great time and moved on to a house party. A group of us had breakfast at a cafe, all dressed up, before we went home. Fun!!!

I kissed my then-love at midnight in the middle of Times Square. I was at the top of my game and didn’t have a care in the world.

That was three years ago. Now I’m here alone, sitting in my boxers, contemplating whether or not I should shovel the snow from the front of my house or just deal with the ticket.

@Grisaille made me smile. My city has a 48 hr rule. I often stretch that to the limit.

I was at my then-best friend’s house with a group of my friends and my then-boyfriend exactly two years ago. My friends were all livid at me because I was paying more attention to my boyfriend than to them, but I didn’t really care. I got my first New Years kiss and my friends’ anger subsided as the night wore on, so I was perfectly content.

BUT THIS YEAR… I am getting crunk with @le_inferno so I think this may surpass that :)

Well, not so much the night, but the morning after was quite memorable. I woke up next to Megan Fox with crack and pizza slices all over the floor. She never called me back :(

Is crunk a new word? I thought it was a typo the first time I saw it.

@faye Negative. It’s been around at least a decade. It’s old. And horrible. And I wish I could kill it.

With my BOOMSTICK!

Bah, I can’t keep up. A decade?

It’s a portmanteau of “crazy” and “drunk”, originating in clubs down in the south.

Remember how old women started using “bling” instead of “jewelry” and it instantly became uncool?

I’m kidding, @smack.

faye's avatar

I’m going to go google it, I have always thought pormanteau only meant a type of suitcase. I learn more on this site!!!

Grisaille's avatar

It is. And the combination of two or more words.

Learning is fun.

In Rome in 1996 or so. New Years Eve, everybody was shooting off fireworks EVERYWHERE! It was scary when they came down in the middle of the crowd, but it was also a ton of fun!

Unfortunately, it was New Year’s Eve of 1976. My grandfather died right at the stroke of midnight.
