Would you live in an undersea city?

Asked by Spinel (3220points) January 1st, 2010

With the event of under sea hotels and resorts (like Jules and Poseidon), full “in the ocean” occupation seems possible. So, would you live in the ocean? What challenges come to mind?

If Rapture is an example to go by…

Maybe.

Sure. Although it would be a bit odd exchanging mice and cockroaches for crabs and sea urchins. ~

I like living where if a window breaks- I don’t die. Call me old-fashioned.

I would love to live in in an undersea city. It’s my dream.

No, I’m afraid of deep water, and I can’t swim.
I’m getting creeped out just thinking about it.

DominicX's avatar

Probably not. Seems like something could go wrong and everyone would drown. Imagine what an earthquake would be like in an undersea city…

Also, what about light and plants and everything? I guess it depends on how deep you are…

Not to mention my boyfriend can’t swim so he’d probably never want to be in one and I’d want to be with him. :)

Yes
There’ll be no accusations,
Just friendly crustaceans

Yes!
I don’t see anything as a challenge, I’d love to interact with all the sea creatures there.

…for a minute….;)

I’m claustrophobic, I could never do it. You couldn’t pay me to enter a submarine or the space shuttle. no way!

El_Cadejo's avatar

Oh fuck yes. This is a dream of mine actually :P

As long as there’s no Jar-Jar Binks there ;)

Certainly would give a different meaning to the expression, Let’s go out for some air!

dpworkin's avatar

I would if it could be in a pineapple.

I would not desire to live in an underwater habitat (Would miss the mountains), but surely would visit one for a vacation.

I hope people all over the world along ocean coastlines will have a choice!

I would certainly visit such a place. If the proper safeguards were in place, it might be relaxing.
It need not be all that far below the surface. Sunlight is very advantageous to have available.

@pdworkin Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? P… d… workin!

Lets think about this. how many times have terrorists attempted to to bomb the underwater railway in New York? by their own admission, they have no security cameras in the tunnel underneath the river. this was known by terrorists at 9–11 and its still not been corrected. would i live beneath the ocean. no. if New York has not corrected their security problem, under the river, what do you think a city would be like under the ocean?

Grisaille's avatar

I find your lack of imagination disturbing.

El_Cadejo's avatar

i just finished watching a new hope :P

absalom's avatar

Have you seen Sealab 2021? I’m not trying to blow up under water.

Qwertymuffin411's avatar

Would I drown?
If not, maybe I’d visit for a week.

janbb's avatar

I’ll live anywhere that’s habitable, if necessary. Especially if it’s got an octopus’s garden in the shade.

stemnyjones's avatar

Only if land was no longer habitable.

SOMETHING is bound to happen where there is a crack in the shelter, whatever it may be, and the ocean comes flooding in and the whole place implodes.

I’d wait 10–20 years for OTHERS to try it out first—to be confident in its safety. I hate that a leak at great pressure can generate a stream of high-velocity water able to cut a man in half. Or that sudden, catastrophic structural failure will turn everyone into an instant pancake. Or the possibility of drownings due to broken valves & the like.

After you…

WCUBassBone1's avatar

I’d at least visit. Hopefully every room is equipped with scuba gear just in case someone opens a window.

_Liliya_'s avatar

I think that would be an interesting concept to try out. However I do not think that I would live there forever. I think it would be nice just as a vacation destination. You have to come up for air sometime. ;) Great question by the way.

Hell yeah I would live in the ocean! I used to pretend I was Ariel when I was younger and wanted to be a mermaid. I love the water
