Activia alternative for the lactose intolerant?

Asked by Shegrin (1187points) January 4th, 2010

I feel a lot better when I use lactose free milk and when I stay away from yogurt, ice cream, and soft cheeses. However, I feel that it’s very unfair of Jamie Lee and her Activia buddies to offer the “2 weeks or your money back” deal when there is no alternative for people like me. Anyone know of a 2 week powder or pill program that gives the same mild results? And costs as much as a 2 week supply of yogurt (or less)?

What about Lactaid tablets?

You could try acidophilus probiotic capsules. They are usually found in most supermarkets as well as vitamin/supplements stores.

Oh my GOD. Unfair? You feel that it’s unfair for a new product to be on the market? So everytime a new product comes out that has a dairy product in it you feel that they should at the same time have a dairy free alternate? Is that what you’re saying? Please correct me if I’m wrong. That’s what I got from your statement/question. Do you want some lactose free cheese to go with that whine?
You didn’t even worry about your “digestive health” until you saw the commercials, then you decided that you absolutely HAD to have some too. Heck, all these people are feeling better, why can’t I? So now you just HAVE to have better digestive health at a COMPARABLE price no less, or else what? Are you going to sue for being left out?So, for every new wine that comes out do we need to have an alcohol free alternate? How about people with allergies? Should we have peanut alternates in candy bars? It might not be fair otherwise. What about allergies to strawberries? Do we have strawberry substitute juices, jams and jellies, and ice cream? What about women who are incontinent? Should we have diaper/thongs for them so they don’t feel left out?
Do you see where I’m going with this?
You are a marketers dream. Give me a break.

“Puritan’s Pride” sells pro-biotic acidophilus on line rather inexpensively. It comes in gelatin capsules.

@Dr_Dredd says it all. lactaid has really a good taste, and a wide variety of products.

Prune juice, or prunes.

Ok, @Trillian. There’s no need for all that anger. I have actually been searching for this information for years. The Activia just gave me a point to start from so most regular people would know what I’m asking and so others who are also lactose intolerant can maybe let me know what worked for them.
Judging from the weight of your response, you are not a happy person. I am. I’d just like to be regular without stomach pains and gas.
