What is something you wore in your past that now makes you cringe?

Whichever era you grew up in they all have their fashion disasters. From the flares of the seventies to the shoulder pads & leg warmers of the eighties. Let’s hear some of your fashion faux pas.

When I wore them, I was the glass of fashion. No regrets, as I sit here in my jeans, sweater, bedroom slippers, and Milo draped around me as a boa.

Everything.

A Pantera shirt
Shut up, I was 14!

Flowered denim vests, stir up pants, and hats that looked like Blossom could have previously owned them. Hangs my head in shame

I used to dress in all black. Even in 100+ degree weather I wore a leather jacket.
I was nuts.

Haleth's avatar

@Dog That’s just what I was about to write! I had an odd sense of fashion back then so I also used to wear layers of clothes, even when it was hot out.

ragingloli's avatar

My old PE clothes.

sjmc1989's avatar

@Dog Now that is some true dedication to fashion! GA :)

I used to wear a rather concerning amount of plaid.

Likeradar's avatar

Hammer pants . I had them in tye dye, and an awesome animal-print patchwork pair.

My favorite outfit circa 1989 was a pair of black leggings with lace up the side that I would top with a pea green oversized off the shoulder sweatshirt. It had a tiger with a rhinestone eye, and “wild style” sprawled across it. Top it off with one of those plastic cone pony tail holders and pink high tops…HOTT.

@shilolo Now that’s just plane stupid. You canopy serious~

sjmc1989's avatar

@ucme Not one of my most proudest moments, but hey I was like 5 so that is my get out of jail free card.

Likeradar's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities An embarrassing number of pictures, but they’re states away at my parents’ house.

ucme's avatar

@sjmc1989 Oh well all is forgiven then, well almost~

Red Flared denims…......back in the early 80’s.
I looked so cool in them too. – in a retro 80’s sad-git kind of way.

tinyfaery's avatar

In the early 80’s I had cha cha bangs. I think I helped to keep Aqua Net in business.

I also regret my grunge look. There is nothing more unflattering than oversized everything, especially flannel.

Well, I used to wear goofy things when I was little, like overalls and brightly colored baseball hats (ones that looked like those goofy propeller hats except without the propellers) and then up until when I was like 9–10 or so, I used to wear shorts that went above the knees and socks that actually weren’t the disappearing kind. But that’s forgivable. Of course, my boyfriend wore shorts like that all the way until he was 14 or so and it turned me on so much…

Other than that, nothing else, really. My style hasn’t changed much over the years. I no longer wear a puka shell necklace religiously like I did in middle school, but that doesn’t make me cringe.

Back when I was a wee tiny lad I used to wear plaid Bermuda shorts. My only excuse there was that I was young enough for my mom to be dressing me.

Everything after that I was okay with, including the rabies tags, spiked wrist things, spiked collar, leather jacket, jeans, and big black boots.

knitfroggy's avatar

Overalls. A sparkly purple mock turtle neck. A purple velvet newsboy cap. Birkenstocks. All at the same time.

sjmc1989's avatar

I think @knitfroggy Wins!!! Lurve for you!

scotsbloke's avatar

Anyone ever wear a bright coloured tank top?

just me then! lol

ucme's avatar

@scotsbloke Many many times, i’m afraid. As jacko said you are not alone!

scotsbloke's avatar

@ucme yea, but I liked them…...........lol – Escept when I had to wear a shirt and tie with it. Yuk!

gemiwing's avatar

Two-tone socks, two-tone shoes (LA Gear anyone?) and yes, the side ponytail- before it was ironic.

Acid wash jeans as in this clip:

@scotsbloke I have school photos that shall remain hidden, where you would need re entry shields to view them so bright & garish are they.

Red pumps and fish-net stockings. What could I have been thinking? I look so much better in open-toe flats.

AstroChuck's avatar

Seriously, I used to wear a polyester shirt and gold chain with my polyester Angel’s Flights flared pants with matching vest and jacket. On my feet were very stylish chunky blue and red shoes.
Hey, it was the 70’s. What can I say? I thought I looked gooood.

ucme's avatar

@AstroChuck Too late now covering your tracks~ We all know fish nets were a guilty secret begging to be unearthed. I find they chaff the thighs though!

Ill-fitting, baggy pants. YUK. I must have drove my dad nuts.

Leather Bolo String Ties
Black Parachute Pants
Colored Bandana as a belt
White Leather Rebok Sneakers

ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

njnyjobs's avatar

There was a period in my life that I wore suspenders with all my pants…

filmfann's avatar

Platform shoes. I was 6’2. Why did I feel my height needed another 3 inches?

Supacase's avatar

1980s shoulder pads and dressy shorts outfits. Dressy shorts? Who thought of that??

YARNLADY's avatar

I wouldn’t know a fashion faux pas if it bit me. The only thing I look back on in horror is my going along with the ridiculous fad of wearing high heels to work.

FlipFlap's avatar

Back in the 80’s, I wore a bright red shirt with odd little black flags on the fabric that had huge short sleeves designed to be rolled a couple of times. That was my favorite shirt at the time, but I wouldn’t be caught dead in it now.

Grisaille's avatar

Oh my god, throw me in there with @Dog. All black, all the time.

Fingerless gloves, too!

* hurl *

Likeradar's avatar

@Grisaille I still wear those.

deni's avatar

I have a bright red blazer with white polka dots. I used to wear it in high school frequently. Sometimes with a lime green shirt. Now I look at it and have to choke back vomit. It’s just too bright. I wore it to the circus a few months ago. Sadly that is the only place where it is appropriate.

Grisaille's avatar

@Likeradar I do, too. But I used to wear them all the time.

FlipFlap's avatar

@Peedub, I had some of those baggy pants too. Mine were pleated! Hahaha!

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

Shirts/dresses with shoulder pads and jean jackets. Yikes.

YARNLADY's avatar

I am totally hopeless. Several of my favorite pieces of clothing have shoulder pads, and I love them. I also never got over my hippie phase.

gailcalled's avatar

And the hot pants era in the late sixties. I had an outfit of red and blue flowers on a white background; the short shorts, a top that tied under the bust and therefore exposed the midriff and red patent leather clogs, which I used to fall off of periodically.

Likeradar's avatar

@gailcalled You must have been adorable!
