Is bin Laden still with us?

Asked by kevbo (25672points) January 5th, 2010

I haven’t followed news about bin Laden too much in recent times, but his name is popping up now in light of the Christmas cockbomber escapades (sorry, couldn’t resist).

A CIA guy who was on the latest Charlie Rose mentioned that they are still looking for him, and I heard a similar mention elsewhere (maybe from a congressman on TV, I don’t remember).

Anyway, is he still alive or is he like a modern-day Spartacus?

Wow, it’s like the CIA got ahold of this already and flagged down the “real” answers before any of us could get in here.
Hmmmmm Something fishy….Something really jellyfishy going on here.
You think Laden Fluthers from a cave with better internet connection than any of us?

Phew, it was just EP. I thought the CIA got us.

@EmpressPixie, are you Fluther’s TSA admin? ;-)

@kevbo
Would you believe that my last trip to the airport caught me a $250 fine from some TSA lady who found a knife in my backpack. I did not even know it was in there. $250!!!

kevbo's avatar

@judochop, they can fine you? WTF? That’s bullshit.

kevbo's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir, maybe the admins are jealous, too.

Hey, with all of the stripper Qs earlier, and your comment just there, @kevbo, I’m wondering “Who is the T & A Admin?

Osama bin Laden may still be alive, might still be in command of some group somewhere, but he is probably well protected by supporters in Pakistan where our “loyal allies” are doing their best not to find him.

@CyanoticWasp, I believe that post has gone unfilled since the inauguration.

I like boxers, too, btw. We’ve had a number in my family. They’re great dogs.

Most of the world and intelligences seem to be of the opinion that he is most likely dead. It is known that he was severely ill in 2001, with kidney failure, constant dialysis and lung problems. It seems to me that only American and British intelligence is officially willing to authenticate the audio tapes released now and then. Few seem interested though even if Bush promised to catch him dead or alive as well as Obama’s promise to get him. It is fairly obvious that people don’t care anymore. I think the response to this question shows that too.

I find him to be of no other significance than a “spiritual” symbol, and as long as he is “alive” he serves a purpose for various groups of people.

The original core of Al-Qaeda was shattered and it became a loose concept franchise, with little in common with the first organisation other than fundamentalist ideas and hatred.

From statements I’ve read I do agree that him being dead or alive don’t change anything, and in the end is of little importance in global affairs.

He might be alive, but then it is probable he is protected and hidden by a government. A sick man like that don’t make it otherwise, and certainly don’t run and evade capture as a rabbit footed shadow..
