Where in London can I buy Stroh Rum from? Which central liqueur shops would be my best bet?

Asked by kounoupi (802points) January 10th, 2010

Here goes:

A really good friend of mine is a great fan of cocktails with Stroh rum 80%, but it is so, that it’s impossible to find this drink in Greece. The good thing is that I am visiting London in a few days, so I was thinking to bring back a bottle of this particular rum for him, as a surpise.

The thing is that I have no idea where I can find Stroh Rum in London! Additionally, if I actually find it, would it be easy to bring it back home? (meaning, would there be special “travel” wrapping upon request?)
Could you, dear Flutherites, perhaps, help me out on this one?

Unfortunately online shopping at this point is not an option for me(not before March anyway), and that is rather sad, ‘cause I have found quite a banch of online shops that sell Stroh rum and at a reasonable price (it’s not very expensive, it’s just not imported to Greece anymore).

Ps. I am to stay in Bloomsburry and since it is a central area (I’ve been to London a few more times before), I keep my fingers crossed that there will be a few suggestions…

Thank you:)

You might actually be able to find it at the airport in the duty-free shop, If you have time, check when you land, so that you will be able to purchase it when you leave.

Which airport are you landing at—Heathrow or Gatwick?

Also, their website has a finder section. If that doesn’t work, there’s an e-mail contact.

Hi there, thank you for the response.

I’ve tried out the “finder’s section” but I get en error page:(
I will email them though:)
I am landing at Heathrow airport, you are right, I should have metioned it before.
I thought of looking at the duty free shops, but still I wanted to have a back-up plan:)
Thank you again.

I would try major department stores like harrods, selfridges or most probably harvey nichols….

Gerry’s, 74 Old Compton Street, Soho. If they don’t have it no one will x

@chian: Last time I did try Harrods, but they told me they don’t bring it in at all. If I don’t run out of time I’ll surely look into the other department stores though, I have nothing to lose. Plus I was looking for a good excuse to visit these stores lol
Thank you very much:)

@EdMayhew
Hello there. You are right, Gerry’s seems to be one of the best liqueur shops in London. Here is their website:

I am definitely going to visit this one, seems very promising and is truly very near to where I am going to stay. The only thing that still troubles me is that there seems to be no Stroh Rum in their online inventory at the moment, yet, a few days ago that I had found their website in search for this particular rum I’m pretty sure they where offering it. Thank you very much, I had totally forgotten all about it, untill I read your answer. Pls keep your fingers crossed that they will bring in a few bottles in the next few days, ‘cause I am flying on Sunday:))
Thank you very mush:)

I e-mailed Gerry’s and they do have it, even though the it’s not on the web site.
Stroh 80 % is £31.50 and 40% is £15.50

not a bad price if you ask me, seeing as it is a speciality drink. have fun!
