What do you do when someone has taken your heart?

Asked by monobonbon (67points) January 13th, 2010

I met this guy and its that thing where you know you have met the right person… like i wasnt phisically attracted to him or mentaly… it was just “it” it was love at first sight…. and I don’t know how to explain it.

I started to like this guy even before i met him, at the moment i saw him i just fell in love… i didn’t even know his name.

Over the next week we started to talk and talk and talk. we became really close friendsafter 2 years… but i wanted more… i told him on several occasions that i liked him…. but he was always nice about it and said that he only saw me as a friend and that if he did like me that he still wouldn’t say he liked me because it could jeperdise our friendship….

but over the 3 years of getting to know him… he is the complete opposite of me and i love that… its like an adventure together.. we balance eachother out… and i don’t know if its me or something… but its now been 4 years of meeting eachotherand staying as really great close friends. He moved, we still talk like best friends but he only moved to another school, yet he talks to me every day.

now its a new year and the same school with a new school year and this year its without him =( . . . . but im getting by. and i really don’t want to have a boyfriend unless its him… i really don’t want to date and my friends think its because im depressed but im not its only that i don’t feel anything for anyone except him.

why do people reject the idea of dating a friend?
life is taking risks and why not take a risk on dating a friend?
do you think im depressed?
do you think that he is lying to me and really does like me?

You’re sound kind of young so I don’t think you’ve fully grasped the concept that sometimes things don’t work out with the person you want. If it’s been this long, he would be with you you if he really wanted to. Knowing someone for years usually creates a friendship bond to where he just thinks of you like one of the guys or his sister. You can’t force him to be with you, it’s up to him.

No, he doesn’t like you. He is doing you no favors staying friends with you/

It will be really hard, but you have to stop talking to him and seeing him even as a friend.

How can you get over him if you’re mooning around him all the time? You need to see and date other people.

You need to decide that you are worth having and giving love, not just giving it away to someone who doesn’t want it.

1. why do people reject the idea of dating a friend?

they don’t. Or do you mean your particular guy? It’s simply that he doesn’t see you as anything more, and it’s common that once a relationship develops into a friendship, one of the people involved wants something more, but the other doesn’t. This is an extremely common scenario, which happens all the time because simply people move at different speeds, and one’s feelings can grow faster than the other one’s.

2. life is taking risks and why not take a risk on dating a friend?

Sure, you took your risk. It just didn’t work out.

3. do you think im depressed?

nah, there’s a lot worse to come in life. You’ll be ok for now :)

4. do you think that he is lying to me and really does like me

no, and the faster you get rid of that thought, the faster you’ll heal.

I’m going to be honest with you, I think Marina is right. He’s not that into you. Trust me, everybody has experienced this and it really sucks.
But you need to get over him, he’s not the one for you. The one is still out there, so go out and find him. You will eventually meet somebody that will love u just as much as you love them, if not more.
Why be stuck to a person that shows no interest? You deserve much better!
