Apparently you aren’t the only one interested (unless this is you under a different name). At this site one poster says in September 2009:

“I know this is a slightly old thread, but I just stumbled upon it. I’ve been in communication with Sankyo about getting the music box mechanism produced. It’s $670 one-time creation fee for them to do tooling etc etc. I’m organizing people who would consider splitting the cost of the creation fee. I’ve made a site at stromnova.webs.com where I’m collecting members. If you’re interested, check it out, become a member to stay up to date with whats going on. Also, if you have any more questions about it, just shoot me an e-mail at liliumbox@gmail.com.”

There are also quite a few sites like this one that allow you to add custom music to a music box.

Something else to consider is what this person did.

This is the sort of product you should look for: http://www.deanorgans.co.uk/order_musicalmovements_mbm20hp.htm
I don’t know anything about how well this method works, but it’s certainly cheaper than the option above.
