Has anyone been through a gastroscopy surgery?

Asked by higherground (1148points) January 13th, 2010

I will be going for gastroscopy in a few weeks time. I’ve got some information about it from some brochures and websites but I’d like to hear it from anyone who has been through it and their personal experience !

If you have any thing else that would be useful, I’d appreciate it very much if you could share !

I’ve had 4 gastros and am going for another feb12. They are nothing to worry about. You sleep thru it and feel a little dozy after. Some doctors spray your throat with a baaad tasting fluid to numb it, some don’t. I’ve had both ways. You will have a wee bit of a sore throat, otherwise you won’t know it happened by evening. In my case they biopsy some tissue each time but they may just be looking for you.

If you have a sensitive gag reflex you may remember some unpleasantness related to that, but you are sedated, and it is a blurred memory.

I’ve had it twice and both times I was sedated to the point of not being aware of it at all. I had a slight sore throat for a day or two afterwards.

Just to add – I went for gastroscopy a few days ago and I wanted to put up details of the process here so that people who needed to know , will understand this procedure better . But the strange thing is , I don’t remember a single thing about it , like @downtide .

It is a good thing , isn’t it ?
