Does anyone here have Hypothyroidism? Or know someone who does? What's your experience with it?

Asked by eternal_serenity (494points) January 14th, 2010

I think I may have hypothyroidism – it runs in the family and I feel bad all the time. I would like to get real people’s experiences with it to see how they compare to mine.

Get your blood checked. Easy to fix if your thyroid is low, my mother took thyroid pills for half her life.

My mom has it. Symptoms include constant tiredness, lack of appetite, gaining weight inexplicably… Go to the doc and ask them to check your thyroid hormone levels, it’s the only way to know if that’s what’s up. You won’t always have the typical symptoms, so if it runs in your family and you have enough of them it’s worth getting it checked out.

Are you constantly tired? Is the base of your neck a little swollen? Do you feel depressed?

Get your blood checked. That will tell you.

I’ve had it since I was 11 y.o. It runs in my family. I take a pill every morning, and I’m fine.
