Is it true that if you had a certain hair color as a child, that it will look good as an adult?

Asked by DrasticDreamer (23996points) January 14th, 2010

I’ve been told many times that if you had blond hair (or any other color) as a child, that it will naturally look good as an adult, even if your hair color changed as you aged.

Does anyone know if stylists/hairdressers actually say this? Or is it one of those weird, random myths?

I dunno…I hope so. I was a little blonde toe head when I was little. Then the older I got, the darker I got. Now I’m a bottle blonde, LOL. I HOPE it looks good :-/

I had light blonde hair as a child, now its dark brown.

@pjanaway @Ame_Evil I’m the same way. What I’m asking is whether or not the color we had as children would still look good on us now. I’ve heard it said a lot, but I’d like to know if it’s actually true.

I reckon I’d look pretty cool with light blonde again. Though its better with dark brown with the tips highlighted blonde.

When I was little, I had like actual yellow hair. It was yellowish white. Now I have more of a golden brown hair color (don’t trust camera images! Flashes make my hair look much darker than it is. The parts around the edges are more accurate of the true color).

I think that I would like fine now with more yellowy hair. There are people who like that, it’s just not as common. I think it looks fine. I do think that maybe to have the yellowy-white color that I had as a toddler might be a little extreme. I have seen people like that, but it’s so uncommon (and it looks bleached) that I don’t think I would really want it. :\

It’s absolutely not true, your skin tones can be affected by where you live and how you’ve grown up – and LOTS of children have blonde hair that change to another color as they age. Just because you grew up with blonde hair doesn’t mean blonde hair will compliment you the best now. :)

I don’t think it would look good on me now. I had natural platinum blonde hair…I’ve dyed it semi close to that color (but when dying, I could never escape the yellowish tone, which I did not have as a child..when I was young, it was a white-blonde.)
I have darker eyebrows now, so that would look sort of weird.

My hair slowly turned brown as I got older, but I used to dye it all the time. I haven’t dyed it in I’m thinking almost 2 years now, so what I have is my natural hair color..I think it suits me. It’s a medium brown, with some small natural reddish or blondish highlights. Others don’t usually notice them unless I get my hair professionally blown dry.

I’m not so sure about that. I had very light brown/red hair (it was a strange color… you could tell it was definitely light brown, but like it was all highlighted red) and there is no way I would look good with lighter hair now. The lightest I can pull off is a medium brown or a dark brown with highlights and even then I hear that it doesn’t look as good as my natural dark brown.

I agree with @LethalCupcake. It would no doubt be true if you had the skin you had as a girl. I know that’s not true here. I’ve also been told darker hair makes you look more youthful and healthy.

@faye – Thanks – & ur absolutley right about the dark hair! I myself – go for Hot Pink/Fusia lol – for some reason it looks the best on me!

I have typical saxon hair – I was platinum blond as a kid and as an adult it’s mid-brown. I don’t think blond would suit me now. But I wish it was ginger. :)
