Does George Clooney actually sing in O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I just watched O Brother, Where Art Thou? for the first time last night. Is Clooney doing a Milli Vanilli?

Well…I remember when it came out he was talking about how he got the lipsyncing down to a science, so that it looks like he is. But it’s Dan Tyminski actually singing.
My favorite movie!

“George Clooney practiced his singing for weeks, but in the end his singing voice was dubbed by country blues singer Dan Tyminski.”

No, as noted it was Dan Tyminski, but Tim Blake Nelson does actually sing “In the Jailhouse Now”.

What a great movie. I love that movie. That old-timey Southern music is very cool.

Dan has a great quote where he states that his wife was in heaven – his voice coming out of George Clooney.

Though the music producer for the film – who most recently wrote the music for Crazy Heart – claims George has an excellent singing voice; however, his deep chops didn’t quite fit the style of bluegrass the producers wanted to emulate. His most important track needed to sound like a “bluegrass hit” and wouldn’t have if George’s actual voice, however pleasing it may be, were used.

—lucillelucillelucille, your answer made me laugh hard enough for someone to ask me what I was laughing at.—
—If someone hasn’t seen the movie, they wouldn’t know what you were talking about. Either way, LOL that was a good answer—
