How did you know you were ready to go back to school?

Asked by shego (11093points) January 17th, 2010 from iPhone

I am interested in going to college, but I don’t really know if I’m ready. I don’t want to waste my time applying for loans and all that fun stuff, if I’m not ready.
How did you know?

I knew it was time to go back to school every year because Mom took us shopping for new clothes, and then we had a Labor Day cookout and sailboat race. The next day, it was time.

I had one summer of freedom. i did what i wanted for one whole summer and then i knew. i did not want too much time to lapse between educations. i was afraid if i waited another year, that i would not enroll at all. maybe, i did not trust myself. you are you and only you can make this decision. i would not wait too long.

@john65pennington So I guess I should try. Like the saying “if you don’t do it now you’re never going to do it.”

Shego….....i was always afraid of waiting too long. i was heavy into playing rock and roll music in my band and this was like a magnet to me to stay with it. one night, while driving somewhere unknown, i had a good talk with myself and decided that the music might play out tomorrow, but my education will be forever. that did it. u will know.

The scenery never changes if you stand still.

Usually the attendance bell would ring.

You are ready to go back to college when you are ready to earn a better living than you now do and you know that earning a higher degree is the best way to do that. Or, when you have such a love of learning new things, you can hardly wait for classes to start, and can’t decide which ones to take because they all sound like such fun.

In my case you know you are ready when You apply for position after position and they ask you why you haven’t completed school and then give the position to someone with a degree. =\ very lame. But also, you are tired of the same old routine and you wish to learn new things and advance your knowledge-base. I know for me I was tired of helping my co-workers with their school stuff and here I was standing still why they surpass me. Very depressing. ;-) I say go for it!

I had trouble finding work and hated all the jobs I could get. I wanted bigger things for myself.

One piece of unsolicited advice: go easy on the loans. Go to school the cheapest way you can. Think about what career you want when you get out and what degree will help you get there. I know lots of people with useless $200,000 pieces of paper.
