Are there any disadvantages to being born on Y2K?

Asked by EgaoNoGenki (1164points) January 17th, 2010

When I think of millennium kids, I think of all the advantages they get to have; more so than when I was a kid.

But what disadvantages are there to being born in the year 2000 as opposed to say, 1990 or 1985?

What possibly could be the difference? what advantages are you talking about? i was born in the 1940s and everybody has many advantages over me. my communication was a string and two cans. computers rule the world today. what do you mean?

I can’t think of any. One interesting thing about some born in 1995, however, is that the grade they will be in will correspond to the last ½ digits of the year, like being in 11th grade in 2011.

Put it simply, I don’t think there are any.

Every year has it’s advantages and disadvantages, why would the year 2000 be any different?

Heck yeah!! Y2Kr’s are too young to embrace the big warm fuzzy we all had in 1985 with “We are the World” and the Mili Vanilli debacle in 1990 where they were stripped of their Grammy for lip synching their whole album. Poor deprived Y2K’rs!!

Being obsessed with children is just creepy.

Man, it’s totally useful. If you remember the year, you know how old you are, and vice versa. One less thing to remember. I know I have an easier time remembering how old my brother is because he was born in 1990.

They will never know Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear.

The Y2Kers will still be too young to drink, go to R-rated movies, or buy a gun for many years yet.

And some of them might believe that before the advent of color TV the whole world was in black and white.

@Darwin Kids will complain when you want to see a show that isn’t in Hi-Def!

@asmonet I guess that word might not be found on official dictionaries, but I found the definitions here:

Well, one is that it’s not 1991, and that’s the best year to be born in. :)

I don’t know, my cousin was born on January 2, 2000. She’s 10 now. It’s really easy to determine her age. I guess one disadvantage is that they don’t get to say they were alive during the 1900s…I’m glad I got to be a part (albeit small) of that awesome world-changing century.

Their relatives will always know how old they are and never have to wonder if they are 9 or is it 13 this year, I can’t remember.

One solid disadvantage: Costs of attending college.

I thought it was expensive enough when I started attending; imagine how much the 4th graders of today will have to pay when they start attending in the fall of ‘18.
