I found out that the person in charge was cheating the system. Can I email them with the ims and emails he sent to me threatening me?

Asked by crazyandbeautiful (551points) January 18th, 2010

I hosted for a gaming league online. I found out the HA = Head Admin was cheating the system by getting his TDS = Tournament Directors, HTDS = Head Tournament Directors to jump in tournaments instead of players to fill spots. In cases (the people who run the website for you) that is cheating. I have all the ims and emails threatening me. Should I send them in and show them how rude and threatening he has been to me?

Yes. Yes, you can. Should you? What do you hope to accomplish by doing so? I recently read a great piece of advice:

Imagine how you will tell other people you handled the situation. What will you say?

Now, act accordingly.

What do you hope to gain by it? Is there a danger to you from doing so? Have you reported the threatening emails and IMs to the police?

crazyandbeautiful's avatar

well marina im in NJ hes in AZ so…where do i report to and which state police?

crazyandbeautiful's avatar

@liliko to accomplish that he will leave me alone. i did nothing wrong…only reported hiim doing the wrong thing and he knew it. how would you feel if ya knew someone doing something wrong and they got away with it? i would feel terrible. i was standing up for something right. not the other way around

Who is in charge of him?

And has he really, really been threatening? Being rude isn’t a crime and its likely that reporting this to the police would waste your time and theirs.

@crazyandbeautiful I would start with your local police. Let them know it is an interstate Internet crime. It may well be federal in jurisdiction.

@avooo yes and no. he did do some damage to some of my friends and they tried to help out. hes trying to ruin my friendship i have with someone and that is not going to happen. but….they were trying to help me out because they saw this happen too. not just me.

avvooooooo's avatar

@crazyandbeautiful Again. Who is in charge of him?

Being mean to you and your friends is not a crime.

marinelife's avatar

@avvooooooo Why are you defending this jerk? You don’t know the truth of what happened. @crazyandbeautiful didn’t come on here to get smacked around.

avvooooooo's avatar

@Marina There is a difference between something not nice and something that is a crime. I am simply attempting to determine whether what has been going on is actually a crime before telling @crazyandbeautiful to run to the police to tell them all about it. That’s why I asked her about the truth of what happened. Its pretty simple, really.

he was using his staff to fill spots that werent filled by players to get the tournaments run. in other words the players werent on so he got his staff to fill spots to get the tournaments run. by cases (the website that runs the league he has) that is cheating the system.

crazyandbeautiful's avatar

its his league avooooooo. hes the one in charge. but i was trying to get cases involved to show them what he was doing was wrong. what if the players wanted to play and could not because his staff filled all the spots up? its still not fair hes cheating the system. my friend was in a tournament run by one of the HTDS and the person he was playing was not present. see what i mean by cheating the system. so they destroyed all evidence that day deleted the tournament out of the system and gave him his buxs back for the game. honestly he should be shut down.

But is “cheating the system” illegal or simply immoral?

We’re enlisting the authorities to regulate virtual squabbles over Internet games now?

avvooooooo's avatar

@pdworkin I know, right?

@crazyandbeautiful Who is the “them” you’re talking about e-mailing?

crazyandbeautiful's avatar

cases the third party involved in helping you run the website. they are responsible for seeing that even though its your league you are following their rules. which he wasnt. so
i wanted to know if i should email them and show them the ims and emails he sent to me
threatening me

daemonelson's avatar

That’s like complaining to the police chief for the police chief doing something wrong.

Is there any third party you could go to?

crazyandbeautiful's avatar

i went to the third party which is cases. they are the ones that run the website he runs he league from. its up to them what happens now

@crazyandbeautiful Good plan. Most game sites have a set of guidelines to tell you what to do to resolve disputes. You should try to find the guidelines, and see if they say anything.

Also, my advice would be first to report that there has been a dispute, and you have proof, then state the solution you want to see. If they want to see the proof, they will ask.
