Name a time you could live in, and one you could not.

Asked by RocketSquid (3483points) January 18th, 2010

I could easily live in the Renaissance, or even the medieval ages. However, I could not imagine living during the 1970’s. I don’t quite know why.

Do you have any times/eras you could live in, and some you couldn’t? If so, do you know why?

I would love to see what the World War II years were like. Also the ‘20s before the crash.

I could do without living during the Spanish Inquisition.

Iron age of Japan. You could pretty much steal a sword, declare yourself a yojimbo, and it you had any kind of skill, make money.

I don’t think I’m equipped to live today. I’m just not good at it at all.

It would all depend on whether or not living in this time periods was a result of time travel, ie. transported in my current state to one of these places, or if you’re asking if I could live in one of these time periods after being born in one…

If it were a result of time travel, I don’t think I’d be able to do very well living in any time period other than in the past 20–30 years.

If a result of being born in that time period, I could live at any point as I’d have no point of reference to say whether or not I’d enjoy what the time period has to offer.

I suspect any time period has its own advantages and disadvantages. I would prefer cleaner, fresher air to breathe and Food that is more natural and less processed.

Well… As an african american male there is no past time that would be suitable to live in. But I would relive the 1990’s over and over again.. Fun times! other then that. =\ i guess perhaps I could live in the future.. u know the one with flying cars, and all the cool stuff you see in the movies.

Oh you mean where people expected us to be like, now? Lol

Probably the opposite. I enjoy living at this time. It’s exciting to have gone from my grandmother’s oil lamp (and seeing her install a telephone line) to my wifi mobile that can surf online anywhere in the world, and my car that plays music off a USB stick. I was too young to see the first man on the Moon, but I’ll probably live to see the first woman on Mars.

I’d hate the Middle Ages. I know we have this romantic idea today that it was all knights and princesses, but in reality it was all burning witches and torturing thinkers. I could never survive in the days of the Spanish Inquisition, or even the milder Medieval times.

I wouldn’t live in the 1950s America
I would live 100 years from now.

@Simone_De_Beauvoir That would be interesting… either we will be starving and war bound from lack of natural resources, or we will be prosperous from new found energies and a common bond between us humans.. or we could all be dead. Hopefully we will be prosperous and full of brand new technologies :) :)

@Tenpinmaster either way I will be a victorious warrior prince/princess…been reading too much stephenson, lol

@Austinlad You probably would not have survived the Spanish Inquisition.

I think I would have enjoyed living in Regency England if I were in the gentry class or higher. The Victorian age might be even more interesting because of the scientific and social developments but it was more constraining for women.

Ninth Century France (or anywhere in Europe) as a serf or peasant – not so much.
