How would the economy be affected if everyone holding stock neither bought nor sold shares for, say, a week?

Asked by Austinlad (16323points) January 19th, 2010

When somebody sneezes in China, let alone in New York or Washington, the stock market drops. So what if, for a trial period, no stockholder bought or sold no matter how good or bad the economic and other news. Other than some shareholders not making any money and some not losing any, what would be the effect?

it would stay flat and sidewise. people would be going long term- then when it broke- there’d be lots of money to make

It would be a very good thing. Good long-term investments matter and contribute to the common good. Day trading is about greed.
