Have you ever laughed so hard that it was difficult to stop?

Asked by Flo_Nightengale (1491points) January 19th, 2010

In fact the more you laugh and feel your belly jiggle, that sensation makes you laugh even more making it difficult to stop. Can you name a time in your life when this happened and does it still bring a smile to your face?

The zombie midget part in Return of the Living dead. I just saw that part again, and it never fails to lighten me up

Oh fuck yes. My friends are absolutely hilarious. I remember one time I was laughing with my best friend during our lunch. She made me laugh so hard that I threw my head back for one of those hearty laughs. Then because I was laughing so hard, I couldn’t lift my head back up. I don’t even remember what we were laughing about, but I remember it was ridiculously funny.

Yup, but it’s been a long time.

Yes, once my dog was doing something so funny, and I literally couldn’t stop laughing. I was trying to laugh, which is breathing out and breathe in at the same time and couldn’t breathe in, and I almost passed out. Things started to go black and I saw stars.

Yep my friend an I were at a store, and she was crushing on the guy behind the counter, he said something, and both of us said “aye papi” together. We were laughing so hard that I fell on the floor in the store and then I started squealing. Which made the guy behind the counter to start laughing.

My God! How many times? There used to be someone in my conversation group who would start laughing sometimes and be unable to stop. There was no telling what would set him off. It would spread to the rest of us, and we’d all laugh for a while, and stop, but the one guy was still laughing.

Another time, I think laughing with the only person who understood me at the time may have saved my life. Again, I couldn’t stop. We’d trade idea after idea, and they all set us off, until my stomach hurt so much from the muscles used to laugh.

ohh my favorite high school story…. an idiot in my grade decided to jump into the pool (june in ny… still too cold) and gave his wallet, cell, keys, etc… to a friend and as this friend was walking away, he fell into the in ground jacuzzi with 2 wallets, cell phones, keys, etc… it was one of those, now he’s here, now he’s not! For some reason, every time i got high (for like 3 years) i would tell this story and not be able to stop laughing. still makes me smile….

Yes I have and it can actually hurt. If I laugh too long it can make me cough .

It’s been a really long time up until today when my friend told me that whenever he sees an ant hill he goes out of his way to “step on it or knock it over”. I still don’t know why i thought it was so funny, but i must have laughed for ten minutes. we were in a chinese restaurant and i was so embarassed but i could not stop laughing. then i mistaked the term “ant hill” for “ant home” and spent another 20 minutes in tears over my own mistake. i had a good day.

Any time I tell the story of the crazed cat running into our bedroom with a bag on it, causing my husband to scream like a little girl…oh man. I cry and I’m not even able to finish the story because remembering it is just too much. lol

OH! definitely!! my friends are HILARIOUS!! I remember laughing, then hearing their laugh, then hearing my ridiculous laugh..then not hearing anything and look over at them and seeing that we were all laughing so hard that we couldn’t laugh out loud therefore making us laugh even harder..and not being able to breathe…and our stomachs hurting us so hardly..but not being able to stop and having to pry ourselves from eachother to actually get a breath….and out stomachs hurting SO much and tears welling up in our eyes..and eventually trickling down our cheeks.. correction: streaming down our cheeks…ahhhhh..that brings back memories..good times, good times.

Way too many to remember, but one just happened about 5 minutes ago. My roommate came back in from a shower, as usual with her towel turban on and this white fleecy body wrap thing that velcros in place, like a fancy towel. Mascara was dripped down her face. A normal sight for me that I’m used to. But then she tells me how she went to our friend’s room to get her off Facebook chat, and there were 2 other people in there besides our friend and they both just looked at her really awkwardly. One of them was a guy. As soon as I imagined the situation, my roommate barging into a dorm with 2 strangers with her little turban and black streaked face and stupid body wrap, I laughed myself to tears.

Yes, lots of times. Just last night I was with a friend and we were talking pictures of ourselves. There was one picture that was so funny that I had to force myself to think about dead puppies because I was actually about to pee my pants.

There have also been dozens of times during school when I couldn’t stop laughing just because the teacher didn’t want me to. There’s something so humorous about that stern face.

Ah, I remember a specific time. Our class was taking a standardized test and I had finished early so I was reading. I got to a part in a book that was hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing! It was pretty embarrassing; the whole room was quite except for my giggling. I remember getting a couple annoyed looks.

when youre not supposed to laugh. during enforced acupuncture in drug trearment when your’e supposed to sit in a circle and be quiet and listen to dulcimer music. in church with my twin brother. in court.

Certainly. I’ve nearly suffocated more than once on laughter. Typically over inane things, like my grandfather announcing his appreciation of the “roast beast” that Mom had made for my sister’s birthday, years ago.
It may have had something to do with the way my sister was mortified.

I was watching the Tonight show with Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon. They were doing the “Karnak” routine where the answer (always presented first as a prompt for Karnak to produce the question.

The “answer” was “Siss Boom Baah”
The “question” was “What sound does an exploding sheep make?”

I laughed uncontrollably for nearly 30 minutes until I was exhausted and my abdominal muscles hurt!

Oh, my yes. Most often with my best friend of 20+ years. One of us will do or say something stupid and we’re off! One of the best was the time I handed her a small tube of makeup, telling her it was too dark for me and she could have it. She happened to be wearing sunglasses when I gave it to her. Later on, we’re in line at a store and she finds it in her pocket. Before I can stop her, she’s applying it to her lips – thinking it was lip gloss. It was, in fact, concealer. Since I’m laughing too hard to speak, I rip off her sunglasses so she can see that for herself and she runs screaming w/ laughter out of the store! Leaving my there, laughing my ass off all by myself. :/

I actually scared my children once when I couldn’t get a grip on my laughter… I had veered into that maniacal stage, tears rolling down my face, and they feared for my sanity. I was recounting a dream I’d had about a mommy cat and her kittens… that all had magnetic heads. The mom cat would just dip her head down to touch a kitten’s head, and then walk around with all her kittens stuck to her head, upside down, swaying this way and that… sort of like Medusa. To this day when I recall that dream, the laughter threatens again. :)

This happened again today. I was in the library and an asian business man maybe in his 50s was at a table beside us. His phone started ringing really loudly….his ringtone was “come on over baby” by christina aguilera….well now typing this out it doesn’t seem quite as hilarious but at the time and while high I was choking on my spit because I couldn’t swallow….because I couldn’t stop laughing.

I’m so charming
