If the weight of the volume of water that the boat displaces (pushed out of the way) is greater than the weight of the boat and its contents, then the boat will float. It is all based on “Archimedes Principle”.

It says, “A body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid.”
