Social Question

What do you do more? Play video games or play board games?

Asked by pizzaman (210points) January 24th, 2010

In todays day in age everyone texts, IMs, online chats or sends comments like ttyl, or OMG! Everything is instant on the computer which – as my teacher says – gives us no patience. The texting example gives us – once again as my teacher says – no ability to be social. So, to see whether this can be true or not, answer this question, which do you do more?

Also, if you would like, answer this as a side question. Do you think what my teacher is saying is true or not? Why?

Board games. I can’t stand video games.

I play video games.
I haven’t played a board game in at least 5 years. They’re so boring.

You mention a lack of social ability from all the IMing, txts, etc. That makes me feel like you think that video games also lack a social element. To which I say:
For most online video games, whether you’re playing a shooter, strategy or RPG, you need to utilize voice chat to do well. When I was playing WoW, I was spending my evenings strategizing and chatting with 24 other people. Sounds pretty social to me.

No, I don’t think that what your teacher says is true. I think that the txting and IMing dumbs you down and causes you un-learn appropriate English, but I don’t think it makes you lose your capability to be social.

Neither. Sudoku’s, Crosswords, and other puzzles.

Video games and your teacher is probably right but all this tech also saves time for us to do other stuff, like playing more videogames

I still play board games, especially scrabble, which my teacher says is good for the brain.

I prefer board games with live people, anymore it feels like a real treat since it’s so infrequent. There are card games I used to know and play with friends that I miss too.

Board games. Scrabble goes so hard. Scattergories is my other favorite. Maybe I’m old school.

Video games of course.
I don’t find board games appealing. They have poor graphics, poor sound effects, and the gameplay is horrible.

Video games, but that is because I am usually alone when I play. I play board games when my family gets together.

I play video games more because I don’t have anyone with the time to play board games with me. :( I would though, otherwise! I’ve had some of the best evenings I can remember playing Trivial Pursuit and Clue with my friends. I may not play them as often as I do my Nintendo DS or my PC games, but I have much fonder memories with board games.

I play video games online with my friends when they are away at school. When we’re back in town, it’s all about the Settlers of Catan, Risk, and Monopoly. And the occasional scrabble game.

Video Games. And yes, I have no patience.

Video games more than board games but a lot less of both lately because I’ve been spending a lot of time using my new Amazon Kindle. When I’m not on Fluther.

Video games, but I enjoy playing boardgames whenever I can. Not too many people like boardgames.
