Have you ever been surprised by the lack of gossip?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) January 25th, 2010

Have you ever been surprised because a story about you had not spread among your group of friends? Have you been shocked, after sharing a personal life change or something else with a friend, that the news was not shared with others in the group of friends?

Sadly, no.

Yes!! After telling my immediate family I was (pretty) gay I assumed that everyone in the extended family would know approximately 2 days later. It’s been a year or so now, and I have suddenly realized that they don’t. (Well, either that or they have decided to make awkward homophobic comments via, of all things, facebook, anyway!) So it’s kind of awkward, and now I have to come out to them all when I didn’t think I’d have to. Sigh.

@fireinthepriory I am so glad to read the last sentence there! I shared the news of my divorce with a couple members of my circle of friends, and apparently they told no one! As impressed as I am that they are not gossiping about me, I kind of assumed the others would know by now. You are totally right about the awkward feeling of having to tell people I thought would already know. Lurve to you my friend!

@SuperMouse It’s the worst!! “Hey, Grandma. So, um, I’m gay… and everyone else has known for at least a year. Uh. Sorry?” :P Plus I feel like my extended relatives will not only be mad at me for not telling them sooner, but also mad at my immediate family for not passing on the gossip when they first learned it! Sheesh, it’s a lose-lose. May we both figure out the least awkward way to open the can of worms, eh? :)

I’m hoping to have this pleasure in a few weeks. Right now I have lice, so we’ve been staying home from everything. Only a few people know about it. There are these two guys I would love to not hear about it. Don’t get me wrong – I couldn’t care less about what they think of me. It’s just that they’ll be really as loud as possible about going “Eww get away from me!! You have lice!! You’re dirty! You don’t take showers every day!!! Eww!” None of which is true. But they’ll make this huge thing of it. But I think it would be nicer for them to hear about it while I’m not there, so that they’ll just ignore me peacefully without being loud about it first. So it’d be good enough either way, I guess.

Lack of gossip? What the heck is that? I have never seen such a thing in my life.

@belakyre believe me, I am as taken aback by the thought of it as you!

The only ”lack” of gossip that surprises me is when a drama queen/king stops being dramatic and stops spreading rumors… WOAH!
Not that I think it’s a bad thing :)
