Is there a new status symbol on gmail?

Asked by ChocolateReigns (5624points) January 25th, 2010

OK I don’t don’t know for sure if it’s called a status symbol, but I’m talking about the little green or grey dot (OK, there’s a red one, too, but it’s so uncommonly used) next to the contact’s names. So anyway, I was just on Gmail and I saw a new one next to one of my contact’s names. It was a green rectangle with a green triangle directly to the right of it (touching). So have any of you guys seen it? Do you know what it means? I can’t figure out how to make it my status symbol, and I can’t see any type of explanation on there.

It’s been around for quite a while now and I believe it indicates the availability of video chat.

That means they’re available for video chatting! You can make that your status symbol if you enable video gchat. The green means you’re “available” while red means you’re “busy” but still online.

@absalom jinx! :)

@fireinthepriory Oh! Unfortunately, I don’t have a webcam….I want to get one though.

@ChocolateReigns It’s very fun! And it’s great to not have to get a new program like skype or even AIM in order to video chat. Plus you can read your emails while video chatting! :)

@fireinthepriory I’ll have to get a set of two and give one to my best friend and the other to myself.
