I think it’s extremely creative, and not too bad as far as songs go. I don’t particularly like it, but I think it’s just because I know the original…

It’s hard to beat Johnny Cash’s version.

Is it the same version that he sang on American Idol? I really didn’t like it when I saw him do it on the show, so I’m afraid to click on the link. I prefer Cash’s version.

OneMoreMinute's avatar

@jonsblond yes, but the you tube version has been all cleaned up from being recorded in a studio. It’s definately not country like original Johnnys, but I love the new contemporary style he gives to it.

It’s HHOT!!!

I love the Cash version, the Social D version and Lambert’s version. The song is very versatile.

OneMoreMinute's avatar

@tinyfaery I’ll have to listen to the Social D version. thanks!

I’m old school and like Cash’s version better, but I agree with others who say Lambert’s version is creative and contemporary.

BTW, I did a little research and found out what “ring of fire” is really supposed to mean. LOL!

Part of it, he sounds like Jeff Buckley. Like right at 1:31ish.

Nothing beats Cash. I haven’t heard Social Distortions, though.

Man, I love Jeff Buckley. That boy left us too soon.

I’ll take Johnny Cash’s version ;)

@Austinlad, don’t leave us hanging, what is “Ring of Fire” supposed to mean?

@OneMoreMinute The morning after inferno chili?

Johnny rendered a better version, in my opinion,, but it probably depends on your age. My late Dad always used to lament how Johnny stole the song from his wife…but the song itself had the real message, the road of life so travelled..the writing is really the essence. Cash was brilliant, and I only appreciated country music, being a metal freak, through his honesty and soul. He was truly an American original.

@jmah HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I thought it was a wedding ring!

babiturtle36's avatar

Yeah what was the ring of fire?
Vagina ?

OneMoreMinute's avatar

@dannyc thanks for that info. I did not know there was another version- from Hank.

Austinlad's avatar

You got it, @babiturtle36. When I learned that, I felt the same way De Niro did in “Meet the Parents” when Stiller told him puff the magic dragon was about smoking weed.

OneMoreMinute's avatar

@Austinlad Meet the Parents was hysterically funny! ROFLMaO!
And thanks for the trivia! you too @babiturtle!

OneMoreMinute's avatar

@andrew rofl That’s exactly how I was when I first heard Ring of Fire!
I could NOT get that song out of my head ... I go dancing off into the kitchen—retching style!.... but in a good way!!!

I love that song!
