What is the minimum technology my next TV should have?

Asked by TheJoker (2795points) January 26th, 2010

It’s been a good 5yrs since I got my last LCD TV. I tend to buy one of the big 3, Philips, Sony, Panasonic (Philips are my preference). I’m not too concerned about the budget, but am concerned that I get the best quality, or near-as-damn-it. What are the minimum technological requirements I should be on the look out for?

I do not think you will need to worry about it this time around.
They are all coming with the bells and whistles as part of the platform.
Just go for the highest Mhz possible. I think it is 150Mhz now.

You’ll want a full HD TV with a 1920×1080 resolution and MHz is important so at least 100 is essential but 200 would be ideal. You can buy a high definition TV that has a 1366×768 resolution which is cheaper but there is around half as many pixels on the screen, which isn’t a big deal, but depending on how close you sit to your TV it can make a noticeable difference. This is the minimum if you want your TV to stay updated with the latest technologies for as long as possible. A low response time also helps and allows a smoother and more clear picture, which is good for fast paced movies or sports.

HDMI v.1.4 imputs, as well. And In terms of who makes good sets, Samsung has really made itself the #2 HDTV manufacturer in the last 5 years. I have a Sony now, but for my next one, I’ll definitely look at Samsungs.

I recently picked up a 720×480, (cheep/er)I have to say. looks pretty good is some ways I like it better then my 1080..

Seems to soften all the compression issues you get from the broadcasters and the DVD’s.

honestly i used to work for a giant corporation that uses a big yellow tag as its icon and i had to push all those big models. but personally, i really like the Panasonic viera lineup. especially the TC-42PX14. Yes it is plazma. but it looks beautiful. really. and its as low as 570 in some places. looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo goood on my wall.
