How do you feel about our PM system and the new conversation feature?

Asked by Dog (25152points) January 26th, 2010

Tim let us know about it in chat and I think it is really incredible.
To see it go to your PMs and then click on REPLY to one…

What do you all think? Shall we toast to the founders and Tim?

Definitely a step in the right direction.

I feel good about it, thank you for asking :)

Thanks, Bendrim!

I really love that I can respond to messages and have the message I am responding to and the entire conversation right there to refer to.

I never expected this feature and getting it really is wonderful!

Thanks Andrew, Ben and Tim!

I just noticed. That’s awesome! Now I don’t have to click back and forth to remember what I said in an earlier conversation.

Great job, Fluther Gods!

I love it!

It’s going to make moderating way easier.

Hurray! At last! Good work, guys!

However, it’s disconcerting to have it inverted. Why not the same orientation—latest comment on top? Also, if I reply to an earlier comment in the thread—maybe about something else entirely—it doesn’t show me the one I clicked Reply on but just the last four, whatever they are. Not sure this aspect is a plus.

@Jeruba In defence of the designers, this view now follows the same structure as conversations in Fluther questions like this one.

YARNLADY's avatar

Oh, is that what that is? I was a little surprised when I saw it, but I like it.

chyna's avatar

Much better. I can now follow the conversation.

Dr_C's avatar

Love it. Makes it simpler and easier to maintain a tain of thought when answering multiple PM’s. Way to go!

rangerr's avatar

I like it. A lot.
Tim wins the internet.

Are we all using the PM system enough to justify this? I didn’t realize this was such a huge issue.

at the very least, i’m glad it’s something that @Ivan likes. maybe he’ll whine a tad less this week.

Dog's avatar

@eponymoushipster I use it all the time. ~ I must be greatly popular!
Or just a mod.

It isn’t working right for me.

This is how my threaded comments with uberbatman looks. I know there are a ton more than that, some much older, and some newer, but only those random four show up. The picture on the blog shows a “Show 10 older messages” button, which doesn’t come up for me.

Ivan's avatar

@eponymoushipster “maybe he’ll whine a tad less this week”, he whines.

Tim says he knows what’s wrong and that he is about to fix it. Yay Tim!

timtrueman's avatar

One sec. I’ve identified the bug. It will be fixed shortly.

chyna's avatar

Tim rocks!

tinyfaery's avatar

Mine does the same thing pete’s does. :(

J0E's avatar

I like this a lot, good work men.

timtrueman's avatar

Bug #2 fixed. (We were grabbing the first 50 messages instead of the newest 50.)

AstroChuck's avatar

As does pretty much everybody else, I really like it. There have been quite a few times where I’ve had to go back to see what I had written. No more, thanks to the three wise men.
Also, kudos to Dr. J for the meta section. I’m really enjoying having that as a separate part of Fluther whenever I’m on my laptop instead of my iPhone.

mcbealer's avatar

it kicks some serious butt!!

AstroChuck's avatar

As well as not-so-serious butt!!

mcbealer's avatar

@AstroChuck ~ and then there’s the PMs where people feel the need to do some serious butt-kicking :P

AstroChuck's avatar

@mcbealer- And some not-so-serious butt-kicking too!

mcbealer's avatar

@AstroChuck ~ and some serial butt-kicking

AstroChuck's avatar

@mcbealer- Yeah. That too.

augustlan's avatar

Love it. Love, I tell you. Thanks so much, guys!

andrew's avatar

Tim also didn’t mention another subtle improvement—you can now delete comments without reloading the page or losing your place!

Dr_C's avatar

awesomeness

AstroChuck's avatar

@andrew- When are we going to be able to edit comments? Or am I asking for too much as I often do?

andrew's avatar

@AstroChuck Not super soon, as it would enable people to snipe at each other really easily.

AstroChuck's avatar

Ah… Understood. But perhaps if we just had one or two minutes. I can’t tell you how often I screw up when writing a PM. Of course that could just be me.

augustlan's avatar

I’d also like the option to edit for a very short while, as well as a live preview like we have in the question threads.

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’m digging it so far. It’s looking groovy in a happening kind of way.
