Did the original Superman(in the 50s) really commit suicide?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) January 26th, 2010

Forensic science was unheard of in the 50s. police investigations were crude at best. why would the original Superman commit suicide? he had everything going for him, just ask Lois Lane. and, i thought he could dodge a speeding bullet. what happened?

Why is everyone all of the sudden asking about superheroes? This is the third question in 8 minutes…hmm…

The actor, George Reeves, died under circumstances that suggested suicide.

What about the two bullet holes in the floor, that were later discovered? a dead man can only shoot himself once. came from the murder/suicide weapon….a german lugar.

Trails, is there any proof of this? if so, we should contact Cold Case Files.

I’m not saying he wasn’t murdered. I’m saying the circumstances suggested suicide.

What about the bullet hole in the ceiling?

Too many unanswered questions still remain. his wife/girlfriend admitted she fired the lugar accidentially into the floor in his bedroom, but what about the second bullet hole? and, only one gunshot was heard below? he had been drinking heavily that night, but to celebrate, not to commit suicide.

It appears to me that everyone in this debate of murder vs. suicide is using “Hollywoodland” as their source of information. You DO know that the 2006 movie was part fact, part fiction, part imagination, and all a way to sell tickets and popcorn, right? Those serious about this mystery might want to do some hard research rather than quote a movie script. Like read the original press stories and police reports. Movies are NOT the best sources of historical fact.

Yeah, God Damn it!

Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane on the original TV show, said she believed it was the jealous husband of one of George Reeves paramours.

@john65pennington Maybe the gun misfired… Also was this the Superman that was an alcoholic.
