Can anyone recommend any things to do or see on the island of Maui?

Asked by naivete (2463points) January 27th, 2010

I’m travelling to and staying on the west side of Maui in March for about 12 days. I was hoping I could get some suggestions from people who have actually experienced Maui. Anything goes!

@Violet : You really covered all the bases… but one. You left out visiting the islet of Molokini. There’s some spectacular snorkeling and diving there.

Maui no ka oi! Maui is the best!

This will take a full day but do take a ride to Hana. It is a 4 or 5 hour one way drive.

Black sand beach, red sand beach , swim in a waterfall , take a sunset cruise around the island, the aquarium is nice, snorkeling is awesome, road to Hana is breath taking, Haleakala is awesome, but extremely cold. Maui is beautiful!

You must visit Lahaina, a quaint and history filled town. Sit under the Banyan tree.
The west Maui Mountains are beautiful, if you don’t see rainbows there, just wait a minute, you will!
Go to a luau, and at least try the traditional foods.
Visit Pa’ia town, where it is still the “Age of Aquarius”.
On the way to Pa’ia check out the wind and kite surfers.
The book “Maui Revealed” Is a good guide to the Island.

Have fun!!!

There is a wonderful star show on the roof of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which has an on-site astronomer and a 16-inch telescope.

A great drive is to visit the protea farms, where you can get a protea to bring home or ship some.

Olawalu is a food place for beach snorkeling. It is at Mile Marker 14 on Hwy 30 about 10 miles south of Lahaina.

The Maui ocean center is a fabulous aquarium. Be sure to take in the jellyfish tube (a Flutherite will feel right at home!).

@naivete My husband and I loved it. When we were there, they had a romantic one for couples with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.
