How do you guys do your homework?

Asked by nailpolishfanatic (6637points) January 29th, 2010

I usually try to do my homework as soon as I get it so that when I get home I don’t need to do alot. I study in our school hall, and then straght away when I get home.
what about you guys?
how do you study?
do you use computer?
Do you get distracted?

I usually just ask Fluther for the answers… =)

That’s probably a good plan. I actually flipped my schedule, so when I got home from school I went to sleep (yeah, at like 6 or 7), then woke up around 2–3 and did my homework in the morning.

Did the same in college.

Many of us are out of school and past the homework stage. Now the question is just how do we get any work done? Your plan sounds like a good one for you.

I never really did it until college.

I dont think I would have graduated college if I had a car the first 2 years. I really don’t. I did my work while I was waiting for rides.

I do my homework by myself at school. But I get private lesson at home. Quite effective.

I don’t have a specific schedule, although – like you – I have an easier time getting things done before I get home… when I’m at the university or on the train coming back. I do get distracted by noise – I need absolute silence to study. Ear plugs are awesome. Also, as much as I love my netbook, I don’t use it for study purposes. I find that I remember far more when I sit and actually write things out (the ol’ fashioned pen and paper way). It takes longer, but I don’t have to cram at exam time.

well, lemme see. other than putting it off as long as possible and procrastinating, i usually try to see if i’ve ever encountered the topic before and try to sift through my previous notes, handouts, pdf files, etc. my old highschool books and notes have been such a huge, huge help in surviving my first two terms in college. i also go to the university library to check out a certain book or some stuff, but that’s like my last resort or if im in the mood.

I’m still catching up with my highschool homework. I sneak in doing it at work.

As a colllege student, every saturday I write a strict homework/studying schedule for each day for the next week and then I start it as soon as I’m out of class, or maybe after a snack. I do this for one reason: left to my own devices I would procrastinate and be in a world of hurt. I also have a text file with a list of upcoming dates I need to watch – midterms, essays, projects – anything I need to plan for with plenty of time. I also know I work harder during the week than on weekends so I purposely make weekends lighter. I usually do my reading first then move to computer homework but I set time limits for myself so I won’t do other stuff online instead.

@Thesexier I agree with your philosophy. Get it done right away while the lesson is still fresh in your mind. I followed that plan very successfully through grad school. Now I’m going back for my PhD after a 30 year detour and I hope that my preparation and habits will serve me well. Except for some seminar courses, all my work will be independent research under the loose mentoring of a thesis advisor. This strategy did well for me at the Army War College as well. You’re a smart young lady and your good study habits will take you far. Good luck!!

I sit at my computer and put some music on. This is only for like small stuff, if it’s a Project/Essay then I sit at the dining room so i’ve got no distractions.

I have housework, not homework, but I just do it in between answering questions and working on my blogs. I usually spend about 20 minutes working out of every hour of the day, but sometimes I have more fun working, so it reverses to 20 minutes online, and the rest of the time working.

I procrastinate, I hate it.

Shortly, I’m going to be splitting my time about 50/50 between farm work and work on my history doctorate. I will have to evolve some interesting time management and study habits. I’ll keep you posted. Fortunately, I have a very competant farm manager. My farming contribution will be largely reapairing things and a bit of grunt work. A good balance between muscles and brains is perhaps what I need now.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land You have been sounding so much more positive lately. I am really happy to see that. I know it’s been so hard for you.

@janbb Thanks. I don’t know if the light at the end of the tunnel is the headlight of an oncoming locomotive. But I’m putting one boot in front of the other. I know that Meghan wouldn’t want me to be the way I’ve been. She loved life and helping others. I don’t have her talents, but I have a duty to her and the world to use what I do have.
