Do we have an accurate concept of Hitler anymore?

To my grandparents, he was scary; he was evil.

Now it seems like all kinds of random comparisons are made to Hitler or he’s just a funny internet meme.

Is it dangerous or harmful? Is it actually positive that he’s now just something to be laughed at?
