What are some of your favorite scenes from animated Disney movies?

Asked by efritz (3255points) February 1st, 2010

My professor is asking for suggestions to show in class tomorrow, and I am incredibly drawing a blank. Plus I’m just curious to know people’s opinions. You can include Miyazaki’s films released under Disney.

Just about any scene from Lady and the Tramp but particularly the scene where they are eating at the Italian restaurant.

The scene in The Incredibles where Edna Mode offers to make Mr. Incredible a new suit. “I designed for GODS!” “I live in the now, darling!” She’s like a tiny Ayn Rand. Anyway, Edna’s crib is just a wonder of animated set design.

One of my favorite Disney movies is “Rescuers Down Under.” It never seems to get a lot of attention. Anyway, the scene where the little boy first rescues the giant eagle from the poacher’s trap and the eagle takes him for a ride is awesome. And the mice are so cute.

I also like the battle between the prince and the witch-turned-dragon in Sleeping Beauty. Classic.

Thomas O’Mally the Alley-Cat
I Wanna Be Like You
The Coconut Song

But really. I’m head over heels for Disney movies.. so anything.

Hmm, how to choose?

The scene in Spirited Away where she puts on her shoes while in the furnace room. She taps them on to make them fit and it’s perfection. It’s real and it’s true.

Also in SA, when the soot balls eat the stars, when the dragon appears, when they are in the car and stop (it moves perfectly), when they are falling down the tunnel, when she’s leaving at the end- the colors just blow me away.

I love Rescuers Down Under as well. My favorite is the opening- all that zooming through the open space. It really sets the tone for the movie well.

Enchanted where the Prince stabs the bus- classic.

The diner scene from Emperor’s New Groove. The whole thing is brilliant- the menus, door switching and of course Big K as the chef.

The coronation scene from the Lion King is very well done. The opening sequence is absolutely spell-binding. The scene where Simba is missing his father and the stars are all around him is haunting.

The finger pricking scene from Sleeping Beauty is incredibly well done and terrifying. I also love when she’s singing in the woods- it’s simple and iconic.

Now- if we were to include Pixar films my list may never see an end.

@gemiwing Spirited Away isn’t a Disney film.

The scene in Beauty and the Beast when they’re in the ballroom, and in the very beginning – the prologue. It’s gorgeous.

@janbb “You can include Miyazaki’s films released under Disney.” I believe all of Studio Ghibli’s work that was officially released in the US is through Disney

I have to agree with @gemiwing about SA, Studio Ghibli is amazing at what they do. Along those lines, I’d also suggest Howl’s Moving castle, if you’re looking for technical scenes, anything with the castle itself.

@janbb Spirited Away is distributed by Disney so I included it. I left out Pixar films because it would make my list too long.

@gemiwing @BhacSsylan Oh, I missed that last sentence. A thousand apologies – or at least one. I just think of it so much as in a class by itself.

When the Siamese cats sing in one of his movies. I’ll remember later!

@faye That’s Lady and the Tramp too; a great scene.

Well then, I like that whole movie. I should buy it for myself.

I am a Beauty and the Beast fanatic and my answer is the ballroom scene from Beauty and the Beast hands down. Beautiful song and scene!

I loved “Alice and Wonderlad”, all of it, and can’t wait for the new movie to come out.

I love the scene in Beauty and the Beast where he is trying to invite her to dinner and she says no.

I love the scene with the dancing ballarina hippos and the evil dancing alligators in Fantasia.
And the siameise cats in Lady and the Tramp, singing as they destroy the cat and then throwing themselves on the floor acting as if they got malled.
Both of these scenes crack me up every time.

The helicopter massacre scene from Sleeping Beauty.

Poor Unfortunate Souls in The Little Mermaid
The Pegusus’s in Fantasia
The Circle of Life in The Lion King
Festival of Fools – The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which is my favourite Disney film)

There are a lot of amazing scenes in Fantasia 2000 too. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but there’s one part with a fairy or something making the trees and plants grow. There’s a fire, and the fairy rises from the ashes and her tears make the plants start growing again.

When Mulan chops off her hair and dons her father’s armour in order to go to war in his stead.

Epic.
