What is a good detox to try for both health and weightloss?

Asked by elizabethmae (637points) February 2nd, 2010

I’ve seen so many on the market lately, and have been wanting to try one. I hear promises of more energy, less bloat, less food cravings. Coming off the holidays where I ate pretty much all junk food and comfort food, I’d love to get a little spring cleaning for my bod going on. I’m not over weight (5’5 and 130) but I know I need help feeling healthy and kicking the winter blahs. Any ideas?

None are good, all are harmful, your body does not require it. Just drink water every day and eat reasonably well. Everything else is a scam whatever else you might hear. There is no scientific evidence that “purging” or “cleansing” does any good. There is much evidence that it can be harmful.

Exercise and eat balanced meals.I wouldn’t bother with any detox programs.I think the body has a way of detoxing itself via the kidneys ,liver lymphatic system etc..
A typical workout for me is to get aerobic exercise for at least ½ hour 7 days a week.I lift weights 6 days per week.I sometimes will fit alittle yoga in there. As for meals, take it easy on the carbs.

eat fiber and drink water @dpworkin: has it all right. Companies just want to make money. Just begin to eat right by adding fruits and vegetables in your diet, stay away from the cola and drink more water. Eat whole wheat foods and remember, consume more fiber. Fiber is a natural remedy that cleans out your system

The best detox for health and weight loss is to make organic fruits and vegetables 90% of your diet. Eliminate processed foods. Eat whole grains (No bread, Oatmeal and brow rice and beans instead.) and limit your fat and meat intake. Also drink plenty of water, and avoid sodas or powdered drinks.
Also, exercise at least 30–60 minuets per day.

I already do these things. I’m not fat. This sounds like advice for fat people. I have a hard time believing that detoxes are bad. I guess because no one can give me any good reason.

If you already did these things, you would feel a lot better trust me. Alright do you want a reason why they are bad? Search it in google. But I’ll tell you that they screw with your main organs e.g. the kidneys, liver, pancreas.

They change your body chemistry which affects the way vital organs work, by changing saline concentrations. You can Google it, you don’t have to believe me.

Fiber supplements, water, no soda pop!

Dr. Natura
Doing it correctly will give great results. It’s my cleanse of choice.

@Facade Any peer-reviewed citations, or is this just anecdotal? Are you a physician? Do you guarantee the safety?

Facade's avatar

@dpworkin Anecdotal. It won’t hurt to try it. I researched all the herbs utilized before I used it. Nothing harmful. Stop trying to tear down everything you don’t understand or agree with.

Stop trying to build up worthless crap just because you believe it.

I’ve heard that a 4 day diet of only brown rice can be healing for the body. It is rich in iodine, potassium and essential minerals. It gives your body energy to focus on repairing and restoring. Light exercise and stretching is great for cleaning out the system too. Also dry brushing can help to get your lymph system moving smoothly. You can google it. There is so much information out there on health, a lot of it contradicting, some sources say eat nothing one day every month and some say take a cocktail of different vitamins and supplements. You have to do what feels right and listen to your body.

Everyone needs a good detox once in a while to cleanse the bowels and get the system working properly again.

Where do you get that nonsense? Got any proof?
