Are there any military jobs in which I could work with an animal? (ex: attack dog or something)

I am aware that there are animal care jobs, but I figure that means someone gets to possess and work with these animals – I’d like to do that.

I think they really do have (or had) dolphins that search for mines in the oceans.

Security Forces (Air Force) K9 handler. You have to be an NCO to be one though. That dog basically becomes your partner – it can be easy to become attached.

Uh, @simone54 ? I saw a movie about that once, Day of the Dolphin. And I read a book once; A Deeper Sea. Both were fiction. The navy does however, have a security force, and some of them have canines, mostly for sniffing explosives, I believe. The Army has Veterinarians. I don’t know about the other two branches.

I saw something on the military channel once about something they had designed to weaponize a dolphin or a porpoise

@Ansible1 . . . during WWII, they actually used rats as weapons. . . the trick was loading up dead rats with explosives and laying them around enemy buildings. when the custodians clean-up around the building and collect the dead rats, they just simply throw them all in the building boiler that heats-up the place…. and guess what happens . . .

Here is an excellent article on jobs working with animals in the private sector, including the department of justice working dogs. For information about military working dogs, see this one.
