Go to the store Buckle in the states, they will hem them for free and they carryjeans in many lengths. What is your inseam? Is it less than 30”?

I have the same problem and I found some pants at Aeropostale that fit me perfectly!

Gap’s ankle lengths fit me. I’m 5’1” with a 29.5 inseam. Old Navy and Banana Republic probably have the same length categories.

3.5.7 stores, H&M stores

The Limited. Banana. JCP. Ann Taylor Loft.
I don’t know if these are available in Canada though…

I second @Facade for the Ann Taylor Loft recommendation. They have “petite” sizes that fit short people well. My short sisters like to shop there.

ME TOO. For a while I bought whatever fit up top and took them to a tailor to have them hemmed. (It was like, $6.) But I have been so lazy the last few months that I never get to the second step and just cuff ‘em.

Old Navy – you can find more petites online than in stores
JCPenney
Kohl’s

I am 5’3” (which they say is not petite, but I have a long torso and short legs) and the best fitting jeans I have found are Levi’s Signature at, of all places, Walmart.

I too have the hardest time finding pants that fit. If you are thin, forget Old Navy. Not sure how much you weigh, but Banana Republic, JCP, and Ann Taylor Loft are all too big for me (and I’m 5’1”).

I have been buying jeans from PacSun – Bullfrog is the brand. They are a little cheap for me as the dye is very harsh and probably not good for the environment or for me (it once turned my dryer completely blue), but the “short” length fits me perfectly every time. They don’t have the greatest selection of styles right now, but I’m hoping that is because they are moving out winter styles for the spring season.

Delias also fits me well, but the fabric is very thin and not great craftsmanship overall. I’ve tried on jeans at Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister, and those also fit, but I usually don’t buy from them because I don’t like the “destroyed” look (if I’m spending $100 on a pair of jeans, they better not look old!). Gap’s new petite line works for me in the length, but I have to take them in slightly at the hips and waist.

I’m 5’2” also. I’ve learned to hem them myself. I have a special edge stitch on my sewing machine. I’ve had to hem them for so many years that it’s no big deal. Learn to sew, honey.

@Supacase 5’4” is typically the cut off for petites.

Hi there! Great question. I work for a company called indiCustom, and we specialize in custom jeans and dress shirts (our two brands are called indiDenim and indiTailored). indiDenim, our custom jeans company, takes your measurements, exercise habits, and your body shape into account in order to make customize jeans that fit your body. You can design your own jeans and customize for style, wash, and finishing treatments all on our website. Feel free to check out our site at indiDenim.com. I hope that helps!

My favorite pair (bought them last year)..Joe’s petite Vincent wash. They had to be hemmed a bit, but the rest fit like a glove. It bit expensive, but, they’re a good quality jean.

Jude's avatar

@JLeslie I have a 28 inch inseam.

JLeslie's avatar

I think we had 28” at Calvin Klein. But they are very basic jeans.

Facade's avatar

@jmah Aww, you’re so small :) ...and still an inch taller than me lol

Jude's avatar

@Facade I hate it (being this short), lol.

Jude's avatar

Thanks, ladies. :)

@Facade do you want to be my personal shopper, lol?

Facade's avatar

Is this a paid gig? I’ll take pastries and the occasional sexual harassment.

I’ve gotten to the point where I buy pants that fit my body and then just have the length hemmed. I’ve become tired of all the extra shopping it takes to find the right length.

My sister-in-law is barely 5’ and she usually just hems pants or has her mother do it for her. Both of them are short and can sew. I have the opposite problem, being 5’9” with long legs. It used to be very difficult back in my skinny days to find jeans or pants that were long enough but didn’t fall off. For a long time I bought men’s jeans. Now I am still tall but not so skinny, and more places carry “tall” styles.

Judi's avatar

Go to Nordstrom, they’ll hem them for free!

@Facade anything that you want, pretty lady.

American stores cater to the large and the fat. I notice that in Men’s sections of Walmart, Target and Kmart, Extra Large and up, are the most common sizes. So I guess it’s that way for Women, too.

If you ever go to Europe or are able to get European clothes, those clothes will fit you much better, and with much smaller head holes. (Americans must have huge heads).

I’m 5’2 and I have never had any problems. I buy petite sizes if I’m wearing flats or regular sizes if I’m wearing heels.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

I’m 5’2” also but am pretty long and straight in the hips/legs and have found Victoria’s Secret has pants that fit my shape really well and I never have to worry about the legs being too short once I get the rest to fit well. For suits, Anne Klein has worked out well.

It relative based on a number of criteria’s: your weight and build, and the cut and type of fabric used. If your 5“2, industry standards say we are in the shorter range. In the medical profession, the relative weight should be around 125–145lb. Anything below this is either considered underweight or slightly overweight. Then you need to address the problem areas that you think you might have(for example.. butt, stomach, etc). Finding the right cut and fabric to accommadate that will flatter the drape. Let’s assume all is well and your in that bracket. You can do one of two things. You can go to the petite section or go to the misses section with short lengths.(THERE IS A DIFFERENCE). Petite sizes have a shorter rise ( that means the zipper area is shorter for a smaller torso, but the misse’s rise are normal but the length is shorter. Most manufactering standards for short length start at 30 -31” inches from the inseam , and for petites 29–30”. By trouble shooting these answers, you can go to various retail departments and stores. I find that old navy, gap, gap outlet, dkny have a pretty good selection of short lengths. Ann taylor , lerner, maurices, tommy hilfiger has short and petite lengths, You can also check junior stores but you would need to go a size up from what you wear because the clothes are cut smaller. For example. Say your a size 6 or 8 in misses. You would want to start to try 7,9(junior sizes run odd numbers). Also, anything with spandex, nylon, etc that has stretch runs tighter. Cords are usually constructed in way that its made in a woven pattern verses a knit. So the possibilty for fit is limited unless you look at the cut of the pants. Smaller waistbands , side zipper constructions accommadate smaller waists better. While a larger waistband (about 1–2” think) will help a fuller waist/bottom. Remember, every brand has their own version of the same thing , so you have to try it on. Just remember: your build, the cut, fabric, what dept are buying this from and what brand your buying it from

You’ll find mostly work/dressier pants there, but New York & Company makes wonderful pants in petite sizes, and seem to fit me perfectly!

Want to add that I found my favorite pair of straight leg jeans at a Wal Mart kids section on clearance for $9. I am also contemplating a pair of Roxy jeans that I originally tried on at the Macy’s kids section that fit pretty well.

Also, Gap now carries size 00 in jeans (but not slacks) and this barely fits me. It may work for you. I mean, it fits perfectly when you first put them on after washing but after wearing for a couple of hours has stretched out so much that they are baggy. This is a very popular complaint of their jeans.

Also, I saw 7 for all mankind jeans online in size 23. Not sure on measurements, but that sounds promising. Usually you are lucky if you find a pair of jeans in size 24. I have heard that Levis carries 23 but have not seen it yet.

Also, if you are ever looking for slacks, I once tried on a pair of Theory pants in their smallest of small sizes and that worked except for length. And more recently, I picked up a pair of generic machine washable slacks from Macy’s petite section for $25 retail price that fit me nearly perfect (need to take in just a tiny bit in the waist).

If you have any tips on finding nice non-knit sleeveless tops and blouses or basic black pencil skirts or pencil/shift/sheath/wiggle dresses, they are very welcome. For me, J Crew, Banana, and Ann Taylor has always been very hit or miss for tops and always a miss for bottoms.

@funkytown444 I am 5’1” and 95 lbs and I would say that I am neither underweight nor overweight. I have weighed as much as 105 lbs and that was when my body fat was less than 10% which is not typical for women. Your corresponding weight numbers look highly suspect to me. I don’t know where they came from but I cannot agree. For me, 28” inseam is on the long side (to be worn with heels) and 26” is more ideal. I agree that petite inseam is typically around 30”.
