What questions do you think are better suited for the chatroom?

Asked by jfos (7392points) February 9th, 2010

Sometimes questions are not suited for general discussion, and are allegedly better suited for chat room discussion. What questions do you think would be better suited for the chatroom?

What questions do you think would be better suited for not being asked at all?

A/S/L? Just kidding.
Socializing questions. Joke-questions, non-questions.

Why does it hurt when I pee is a classic example ;)

That could actually be a potentially serious question though :P

So if I was a chick, I would be you?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@phoebusg -It is the unanswerable question…like where are my car keys?

It’s a mystery!

Anything political or religious should be in the chatroom, questions like “do I look fat” should never be asked.

Val123's avatar

@Cruiser Why should anything political or religious be in the chat room?

Cruiser's avatar

@Val123 IMO it would facilitate a better more immediate exchange of thoughts than a thread would is all.

@lucillelucillelucille some un-answerables are actually good discussion starters. It depends on the definition of the question, hence the introductory text.

If the Can you also not find your keys question leads to solutions for keeping a backup spare somewhere etc, then no.

I disagree with @Cruiser – why shouldn’t we re-evaluate politics and religions? Nothing is exempt from questioning. So long you do it properly, with mutual respect and acceptance of difference in opinion(s).

I don’t think any are suited for the chat room because no one ever really goes there and when we do it’s so many people, sometimes, and it all gets all over the place. That is not to say, however, that some questions should be a bit more complex or at least interesting before being asked.

@phoebusg I didn’t say exempt anything…just those topics are more productive when “discussed” as in a chat room as begged the question above. It’s also pretty obvious those topics are well tread territory on the threads.

Questions that start with “Ok,well, my b/f Albert and his bbf Jake and my littelsister Audrey. Last nite, Albert texted me to call him and said that Audrey was defianetly talking about me in the girl’s bathroom…Her and me usualy get along…”

Val123's avatar

@gailcalled LOL! I’ll go with that one!

Val123's avatar

@Cruiser I’d much rather discuss politics than questions like this one, which just got posted…..http://www.fluther.com/disc/73149/what-is-the-purpose-of-life/

@Val123: In the details, when he describes his views, he is painting a picture of classical clinical depression. But I agree; the question alone is too vague, too cosmic and too unanswerable.

Val123's avatar

@gailcalled O. I didn’t even open it. It reminded me of the kinds of existential questions they ask on Minekey. You know, where they keep trying to be all deep and profound….by asking the same questions over and over! “u can never no tru love untl u give tru love.” Like that!

gailcalled's avatar

@Val123: Agreed. I’d much rather deal with an unidentified indoor plant that is failing to thrive.

“Did I wipe enough?”

Cruiser's avatar

@Val123 I would agree there even though I have discussed both more times than I really care to admit! ;)

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@phoebusg -True!Now where are my car keys?I want to go noooooooowwwwwww!;)

phoebusg's avatar

@Cruiser I see, but I mean exempt from long-answer recorded discussions. Then to be specific, I disagree with only keeping such discussions on a medium that usually gets truncated in short buffer sizes – and is not search-able. :)

Cruiser's avatar

@phoebusg Sorry, I did not see that part in the question or your comment and again I tend to approach my chats as a personal dialog conversation and or debate and those 2 subjects do get very personal even if executed here in the forumsphere to be forever recorded in the wide open internet.

Val123's avatar

@gailcalled LOL! X2! Ailing trees over the meaning of life anytime!

‘What’s your favorite >insert whatever here<”

I skip most of those- they’re boring to me and don’t solve a problem.
