General Question

I have a school assignment that I need some help getting ideas for. Anybody feeling creative?

Asked by ChocolateReigns (5624points) February 9th, 2010

First of all, I’m not asking you to do it for me. I have the actual assignment done, but now I’m trying to come up with the creative way to present it. It’s an acrostic with the words “Traits of a friend” up and down. They said to present it in a creative way, not just white posterboard and red posterpaint (they used that as an example, you get the idea). I’m kind of on a tight budget. Could you just give me some ideas to get the gears turning?

Make a crossword puzzle.

or

Make it as a collage of words cut from magazines.

@Shae Oooh I like the idea of using words cut from magazines. It’s not supposed to be a crossword-puzzle type thing. It’s supposed to be like this:
Trustworthy
Responsible
Always listens
Insightful
Treats you well
Super

See it reads “TRAITS” up and down.

Write it on a scrabble board using scrabble pieces.

If you don’t have access to an old scrabble board, draw one on posterboard – draw it just like a real board is and how the real letters are.

put it on a scrabble board.

or

Put it on a t-shirt and have your friend wear it.

@nicobanks great minds think alike. ;)

@Shae Now my dad says that would send the wrong message because usually people that clip letters out of the newspaper are criminals writing ransom notes. So now I’m thinking I could type the letters on the computer in 72-type in different fonts and print it. Thanks for the help guys.

Cut large letters out of felt (available at a crafts store). Put one on the back of each of seven stuffed animal “buddies.” You can fasten them on with a few loose stitches of thread that will come out easily later.

It doesn’t have to be felt. You could cut up an old brightly colored T-shirt, for example.

On the front of the critters, put the traits—a paper label tied around the neck, maybe. Then turn them around, and the labels on the back spell ‘TRAITS.’

Practice your presentation at home before you do it in class.

Make a circular mobile. Instead of up and down with the words horizontal, and have the characteristics words go up and down. Use a helvetica font for the “Traits of a Friend” in the same color, but vary the fonts and the colors for the characteristics. You could cannibalize an old lampshade as a base for it; take off the covering and use the frame. Or do it on a lampshade.

@ChocolateReigns Are you serious? That’s hilarious and awful at the same time. I used to clip things out of newspapers and magazine all the time for art projects when I was in school. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s great. It’s called recycling/reusing/upcycling whatever the latest in vogue term for it is these days.
And no, I’ve never been convicted of a felony.

Get a box of tongue depressors and hot glue them into a 4×4 “cube” frames or boxes in the shape of a tower/cross with each letter inside a 4×4 “cube” frame.

Find an old Sports Illustrated Magazine and cut out the photos of the best-looking ladies. paste one photo on each corner of your wallboard. i see an A+ coming for your original idea of Traits of A Friend. they are your friends, right?

Get an old mirror and write it in lipstick? Or maybe you can write the letters on a roll of paper towels and as you unroll them on a hanger it reveals the letters? I like the magazine idea.

Litebrite or is it lightbright? Either way do it on an old litebrite.
Or…
Video tape yourself spray painting the letters and then edit it to music and speed the frame rate up. Pretty easy to so if you have a flip or a digital camera that records video.

Chocolatereigns…........sorry, honest mistake.

@all Thanks for the help, I figured out what I’m gonna do. I’ve already gotten started on it. I’m gonna write the words on pieces of paper and then glue it onto pieces of cardboard and tie the cardboard pieces together with fishing wire. It’s going to be pretty sweet.
