General Question

Someone took money out of my account.

Asked by boots74 (72points) March 3rd, 2008

I checked my bank account today, someone listed as CCA on my bank statement. debited 99 dollars 3 seperate times. There is a phone number, it is after hours, so I will have to wait until morning to speak with someone. I did do the reverse phone lookup, and it said they were in Stockbridge, GA. The recording on the phone message said thanks for calling the benefits and card services dept. Does anyone know anything about this. Please ease my mind so I can get some sleep! That is 300 dollars that I need!!!!

i’m assuming your not with a major bank.

i’m with US Bank and they have 24 hour service and i’m not liable for any fraud on my account.

i have had my debit card stolen and used and didn’t have to pay a thing.

Don’t worry you money is safe. If it is an unauthorized charge the bank will make it good for you.

find who did it and break there thiefing fingers

Sign up for LifeLock once everything settles down. It’ll give you some peace of mind if this were to happen again in the future. Unfortunately identity theft is only going to get worse as time goes on.

I will check into lifelock, I have been thinking about it for along time now, but I never did do anything about it. I will definitely do something now.

LOL@break their thiefing fingers…would love to do that too!!

I say you go with busterhymen and break their THIEFING fingers!

you should be getting your money back by the morning.. But make sure you changed banks

boots74's avatar

do you really think I should change banks? I have been with this bank for 8 years. What is the reasoning for changing banks? Is it to have diffrent account #‘s, or was the bank at fault in some way?

gildo's avatar

Of course that they are in fault. It should have never happen since the begining.

ok, I will check into it tomorrow. I am also going to sign up with lifelock. I am needing some security knowing my money is safe, Being a single mom is tough, to do it all by yourself. I also have 3 other accounts, that I have never had any problems with, but this is the only one I use to pay my bills with.

Initiate the breaking of the thieving of the fingers now please yes?

I’m against LifeLock. It charges you for something you can do free on your own. Seriously – keep your cash.

Your bank will take care of the fraud, and likely change your account number just to be safe in the future. There really isn’t any reason to change banks, IMHO.

Get a free copy of your credit report, via the FTC in a few weeks and make sure nothing unusual shows up.

djbyron's avatar

@gatekeeper I know you can get annual credit reports for free but how do you do the rest for free (laywers fees etc)? Just curious….

I want to put a little perspective on this.

Boots74 was here a few days ago trying to find out why they could not get into their bank account – kept getting an error “system unavailable.” (I can’t link it since I’m on my iPhone, but you can click boots’ icon and go see their previous questions.)

Considering that might be worthwhile as well, since now that boots has gained access, money is missing.

just want to add a correction….yes, I did post another question about a bank account, that I could not log on to. This is a totally diffrent bank account in diffrent city. Same person, diffrent account.

Alrighty then.

@djbyron on Lifelock…
Services they offer; and my comments in italics.
1. Set a free fraud-alert on your credit report. That’s crying wolf, when there is no actual fraud
2. Set it again every 90 days. That’s crying wolf so often that the credit agencies sue LifeLock
3. Remove your name from pre-approved junk mail lists The FTC tells you explicitly how to do so for pre-approved credit offers and the DMA will do it for regular junk mail
4. Order a free credit report for you. Again, free from the government
5. Call all of your credit card companies if you lose your wallet. Ok, so if you’re lazy this might not be a bad idea, but I generally keep phone numbers of my credit and bank cards in multiple places just in case
6. Offer $1 million in fraud defence to help you if something bad goes down. There’s a big catch to this one: It only applies if the fraud is “due to a failure or defect in our Service”.

All in all, I don’t see the use in paying them $110/year for 5 things you can do for absolutely free, and a 6th one that has little practical application (aka, marketing nonsense)

Yea, thanks gatekeeper, I did do alittle research last night, and I agree with you on the lifelock malarkey…
Anyways, update, I did go to the bank this morning,
I will get my money back on the 3 debits credited to my account.
I also closed out that account and open another one. I am so glad thats over!
Thank you all for all your input on my crisis!!!
