What are the particular aspects of MLA format?

Asked by ChaosCross (2340points) February 16th, 2010

I know I should have learned this by now but I never really committed to learning it, any writers know how it all works?

Thanks.

This is how I learned.

Here’s a start:

Acronym usage -The first time you use an acronym, you should give the full name with the acronym in parenthesis. Afterwards, you can use only the acronym.”

When it comes to matters of citation, I usually just cheat.

This is how I learned, the old fashioned, old school way. The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, though I think it might have been the 3rd Edition, yes, I had to read an actual book, and had to have someone type my Batchelor’s thesis on an actual typewriter, which was not that bad as long as you could keep the Mastodons and Dinosaurs from crushing your typist and typewriter, but it was a good thing she knew MLA style backwards and forwards, a lot better than I did, got me out of more than a few formatting jams, so I shouldn’t really be so smug. :)

Get the handbook; that’s the only way to learn.
