(NSFW) Isn't this simply...rape?

Asked by Zen_Again (9931points) February 16th, 2010

I was looking at some porn (for educational purposes, of course) and I came across a whole category called simply “sleeping.”

The women, and more often than not girls, were sleeping, either from drunkeness or drugs – as they would not awaken when, ahem, well, I guess the proper term should be “raped.” I mean, they were sleeping – so it wasn’t exactly consensual, right?

The girls are always filmed where their faces can be seen. Many are under-age – but whether they are or are not – isn’t it simply rape anyway?

Some of the men’s faces can be seen – no-one seems to be afraid of prosecution.

I do not understand how this is possible, let alone legal.

Could someone explain this horrific phenomenon to me?

Alot of the “sleep sex” stuff is as fake as the Pizza Boy delivery special. What you have stumbled upon though, sounds like a much more sinister version of that. The whole sleep sex fetish has some serious rape undertones as is, but what you stumbled upon sounds like the real deal.

Rape fantasy seems prevalent in porn so this is probably a more passive twist. This is what scares me about upping the ante of sexual “highs” and experimentation. Just how far will you go to get a thrill? Ick.

Captain_Fantasy's avatar

Having sex with an unconscious woman is rape because she cannot consent.

Next question.

essieness's avatar

Ick is right. I recently found out that a person I know very well and am friends with asked her boyfriend to pretend he was raping her. He couldn’t do it. I hate to judge, but there are just some sexual fetishes that scream “I have issues”.

I was looking at some porn

It was a movie. It was fake.

Were it real, it would be rape.

Vunessuh's avatar

There is a huge market for rape porn.
Most of it is fake.

But like @Captain_Fantasy said, if you have sex with a woman without her consent whether she is conscious or not, it is considered rape.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

It’s a movie. It’s scripted. It’s not real.

In real life, if someone drugged a woman into sleep and then had sex with her, that would definitely be rape.

I am concerned that sex isn’t much more important than peeing to many of both sexes. More people want privacy, mentally, emotionally and physically, for bowel movements.

It is most likely that in porn the act is just that, an act, but in real life, I think that any sexual act that is performed without the consent, without the knowledge and consent of the other party is rape. Pretty simple, if you ask me. Additionally, it is essentailly nothing more than masturbation on the part of the man. What kind of man wants to have sex with a woman who is completely unresponsive? I have always wondered about that. You’re a guy, can you explain what a man gets out of sex with a partner that is completely unresponsive? A partner that is completely unable to participate in the act of sex? I don’t get it.

essieness's avatar

@lillycoyote It has to be some sort of dominance thing. Still, very creepy.

Zen_Again's avatar

@davidbetterman It was a category with endless “shorts” of movies. Endless. By date, no less. I don’t want to post the link here in so as not to promote nor encourage this. But trust me – there were literally thousands of clips. Just on this particular website I was linked to. (I don’t like porn.)

davidbetterman's avatar

Lucky you didn’t contract a virus on your computer…

Zen_Again's avatar

@davidbetterman Agreed. I don’t surf much, especially not porn – so I’ve never actually contracted one. I hear they’re awful.

If I want to have quality alone time with myself, I’ll look at a Playboy, sip some wine, and listen to Jackson Browne’s “Rosie” on the record player. Doesn’t everyone else?

;-)

lillycoyote's avatar

@essieness Yes, I think you’re right. Raping an unconscious woman is about the same thing as forcible rape is, or any kind of rape is about. It’s not about sex, it’s about dominance and control.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@Zen_Again: Well, I light some candle as well…

To answer the question, if these are not actors, then, yes, it is rape. I also don’t undertsnad why anyone would want to have sex with an unconscious person.

Steve_A's avatar

Can you hand this over to the police or something so they can verify if this is just scripted as in a porn movie or actual tapes of real rape.

Surely they could tell you right?

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

Clearly this genre of porn is more pernicious than most. While what occurred on film might have been consensual, what it depicts is clearly rape, which is violence and based on exerting control and wielding power over a victim – it is not about sex!

davidbetterman's avatar

Sex with unconscious women seems to be how it was done, hundreds of years ago.

Jackson Browne is an excellent choice, @Zen_Again

HTDC's avatar

Even if the porn films aren’t real and are “fantasy”, it makes me wonder just why a man could find having sex with a virtually unconscious human being, appealing. Anyone who enjoys the thought of raping a woman whether they’re sleeping, dead or alive needs help, let alone enjoying watching it.

Zen_Again's avatar

@davidbetterman Did you, or anyone else here, get the “Rosie” reference?

Violet's avatar

It’s a felony to look at child porn.
Most likely, they were porn stars who just look very young (maybe 18 or 19).
Sleeping, is a kind of porn. Scripted, and fake, like all the rest.

Zen_Again's avatar

@Violet Hmmm. Perhaps you are right. There are some butt-ugly porn “stars” out there.

Violet's avatar

@Zen_Again ah ha ha, yes there are!

PhillyCheese's avatar

Yep.
If the decision isn’t obviously mutual, then it’s considered rape.

“She was standing at the load-in
When the trucks rolled up
She was sniffing all around
Like a half grown female pup
She wasn’t hard to talk to
Looked like she had nowhere to go
So I gave her my pass
So she could get in and see the show

The movies you have seen are NOT real… I mean they are real people but it is just for show. None of the girls are actually sleeping. If you actually watched it, not saying you did or didn’t, but you should take notice that the girls conviently do exactly what the guy wants. If he sticks his dick in her mouth, her mouth just happens to easily open at that time. Same thing when he penetrates her… things happen unnaturally easily. As mentioned before there is a market for “rape fantasy” porn, just remember more times than not, (unless you are on some ultra shady peer to peer download) it will be exactly that a FANTASY. Just like in mainstream media there is acting that goes on and they make fake things look real. Unless you see blood or someone who is OBVIOUSLY underage (like little kids) its probably going to be a fantasy fulfilling type video and just fiction.

There was an incident around here recently that has been getting a lot of attention in the news. On New Year’s Eve, a 13 year old girl showed up at a party already drunk (she was dropped off by her mother). The parents at the home saw that the girl was intoxicated and put her in one of the bedrooms where she went to sleep/passed out. Four or five boys her age found her and assaulted her. The police aren’t releasing details, of course, but the boys have been charged with rape. They took pictures with their cell phones while they assaulted the girl and passed them all around the middle school where they are all students. None of the adults in the home knew this was going on.

Porn is fantasy, and what you saw was probably just that—a fantasy. I don’t understand why an act that can so completely ruin lives can become the object of fantasy, but to each their own. I just don’t like wondering if these boys saw something similar and later acted it out.

It is also possible for a sleeping person to give permission in advance.

Many of my gfs ‘raped’ me in my sleep. It was fun… hehe. Inside the safety of a relationship – it’s not so bad. You may even develop a liking to it. Getting waken up by sex is fun :D

@Captain_Fantasy. That’s all there is to say about it.

@Zuma I agree, it can be consented to in advance. When my husband goes out with his friends and comes home a little drunk and horny, we have agreed that he can “wake me up” when he comes home. I’m always in a dead sleep when I wake up and find him on top of me!

Akua's avatar

@phoebusg I agree whole heartedly. It’s something about waking up to find your wet dream is actually happening for real, it’s such a turn on.

Holy moly, the genre is old. It has been around I would guess as long as any. I can’t speak to the exact content you seen, but a lot of that is staged. Just like the coeds or gals met at bus stops and laundry mats and end up going home or in private with some dude they supposedly just met. How many women do you know who would not be freaking if some dude came up to speak with them, and someone else if filming away? That to me would be a tip off to the rip off. If the girl was not asking a mile a minute questions about who he is and why the hell he is taping, it is staged.

The drunk and passed out thing, as well as rape-fantasy, is basically just that; a fantasy. If you look at it in connection with real life it would seem odd and crazy, same as those who would be tied up and whipped. It is like why would someone want to be in a position like that. With stranger(s) you do not know and trust or involuntary it would have no fun. If you know what is happening and that no real harm will come to you, then the fantasy, the anxious anticipation of what your partner has in store, adds spice to the encounter. For some it is knowing they have pseudo control over the bound partner, that feeling like they are actually forcing their will, even though it is really given. Some might be because they are the boss, and order people around all day and being bossed has something to do with keeping them balanced or grounded.

The fantasy of making merchandise if someone passed is like getting away with something you would ordinarily not. I did not see the footage you seen, sometimes they get really young women and make them up to look even younger, then it is like a double fantasy where you are taking innocence and at the same time doing so undetected.

There is a lot of different type of porn out there. I was looking up computer art and one of the links ended up with adult digital art. Because they had varying styles in the gallery I lingered a bit because it was interesting how some were pretty slick, almost like an oil or airbrush painting, and others looked like plastic people that had that floaty look, and some worse than that. Then it moved to digital hentai (I think I spelled it right) from Japan, they type with Japanese writing on it and pixilated penetration. That could be a whole thing in itself. Some of that Japanese adult art can be seen as pretty brutal to many Westerners. Having hentai where old Gray Japanese men are making merchandise of young girls in Cracker Jack styled school uniforms would be too much for most Yankees. From what I could see, it seem to be fairly popular over there. It is a cultural fantasy they have, I guess. I say beware, you might have seen something made to look real, and you fell for it, when all along it is a fake as a $55 dollar bill.
