What do you think of your local Congresscritter?

Asked by Mamradpivo (9665points) February 18th, 2010

I’ve been feeling very frustrated with Congress lately, particularly the US Senate. When I got home today we’d received our quarterly newsletter from Peter DeFazio, the US Representative for my area. In reading it, I realized that I like my own Representative a lot, it’s everyone else.

I like my guy so much I’m bummed he’s not running for governor here. But what do you think about your Rep? Do you like them or dislike them? Why?

My Rep has been Ellen Tauscher. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her when I heard her being interviewed on a local radio station.

Following an important Supreme Court decision, Rep. Tauscher gave a rather long, windy summation and opinion on it. She then followed by saying “I’m not a lawyer, but I have been watching ‘Law & Order’ for ten years”.
That amused me quite a bit, but I still wasn’t sure how I felt about her.

I actually get Christmas cards from Peter DeFazio every year. My sister used to be his administrative assistant and I did some random computer work when he needed it. He is a great guy.

I just moved and I am not sure who the congressperson is here. I should look into it.

I like the critter reference.
I feel like my congressional reps are doing the best they can but aren’t as effective as I would like. As politicians, I’m sure they are doing something I don’t know about but I’d likely disapprove of.

Our congressmen are better than our Senator. Ugh.

I don’t know yet. I live in Delaware and we get the standard 2 Senators, but only one Representative for the entire state. And Joe Biden becoming Vice-President kind of upset the equalibrium here. Joe was Senator for so long, love him or hate, he was ours and he gave Delaware a voice that it might not otherwise have had. His successor was appointed and I think he and everyone else knows he’s just a seat warmer, though everyone though he was keeping the seat warm for Beau Biden, Joe’s son, but he may or may not run. Carper, our other Senator is well, it’s hard to say, he’s not a go getter, but maybe when he get’s out from behind Joe Biden’s shadow, he may come into his own. Our Representative, Mike Castle, well, he’s really not all that bad for a Republican. It’s just that Delaware is a very small state and the politics can be a little insular and incestuous. There’s a very small pool of people who run for the big positions here.

They do more harm than good.

We frequently participate in the constituent forums and find that the more active we are, the more likely we are to get the representation we deserve.

Your reps are all you got. They are not yet for the most part beholden to corporate or party interests and do have a voice in Congress that is sometimes listened to. Keep yelling in their ear and maybe…just maybe something will come of it!

Most of them have proven that their allegiance is for sale to whomever pays the most. At the present time, AIPAC is paying the most.
