What is the noise called that a tiger makes -- lions roar, canaries sing, what do tigers do?

I can’t think of the term for it or even how to phonetically spell the sound—it’s kind of a high pitched growl/war cry? Not a roar, I don’t think, coz lions have that deep, guttural, bellowing howl—but tigers are more high pitched, jungle-type warning v. the savanna where sound carries farther.
