There are plenty of manufacturers’ websites you can go to, check them out and see what fits your needs and your budgets. This list is not a list of every company, just a few that I could think of:

Dell
HP
Asus
Acer
Sony
Toshiba

There are plenty of stores that will carry laptops that you can buy, you can check out their selection online. This is a list for the U.S.. If you don’t live there, these may not be options for you.
Best Buy
Fry’s Electronics
Circuit City

There are a few online-only stores.
Tigerdirect
Newegg

Check www.gottadeal.com to see a list of recent deals. Then check www.cnet.com to read unbiased reviews on the product you are interested in.

From a used computer store in your area. There are all kinds of small and local (independent) computer refurbishers and resellers in your area—in nearly anyone’s area—and these guys operate at low margins selling good quality used and refurbished systems at great prices. They want repeat business and they rely on word-of-mouth advertising, so they are very likely to treat you very, very well.

Google “used computer sales [your town]” and see what you come up with.
