Do you have a suggestion for a good world map computer program?

Asked by johninttown (75points) February 28th, 2010

I currently use Microsoft Streets & Trips and it’s good for the US and some of Canada and Mexico. I’d like a program like Streets & Trips that shows higher detailed maps for the rest of the world. I use Google Maps a lot, but I’d like a program on my computer that I could use when I don’t have access to the internet. Any suggestions?

Without internet access? Hmm. I would have suggested google earth, but now I have no idea.

hi john,
you can use google earth for that – check this link to see how it works.
here is another way to use google earth offline…

enjoy your map!

@jeschge I appreciate the suggestion. I’ll have to try that out when I got home, but where I am now I don’t have internet that’s fast enough to do that. I was hoping to find a program that I could order and have sent here within a week or two.

Microsoft map point is decent, but there are only regional versions (such as europe, or north america).

@filmfann how hard was it to wait for two real answers before you could spring your joke?

The software that comes with Garmin and Magellan GPS units will run on the computer as well as on the device. It lets you make detailed changes to your routing.

@YARNLADY I was so sure someone else was gonna say it first!
