What is a good flat super tool bookmark?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) March 8th, 2010

Beyond reading books regularly, I carry a journal/organizer composition notebook everywhere I go. It helps to be able to turn to the right page fast. I am looking for a bookmark that does more than just mark my spot. It needs to be flat, safe, TSA approved, shaped in a way that doesn’t take up the whole page, and uber useful. So far I have thought of the gamut of measuring objects like rulers, and stiff cards that have info. printed on them(grammar, measures, periodic table). Have any thoughts. I like the periodic table Idea.

Anyway, it will have front and a back if it is a laminated info card, so if you can think of some nifty stuff besides a ruler to put on there that would be great. Thanks. Also this is likely going to be the replacement for my idea of having a tattoo with useful info on it. Check that question if you like.

Check out Pocketmod.com, and make your own.

How about just gluing a string to the notebook. It would fit all of your requirements except it wouldn’t be very multi-functional. Then again, why does it need to be? It’s a nearly weightless, nearly invisible piece of string (that gets the job done)!

What is “TSA approved”? Have you seen the electronic dictionary’s. I had one and am getting another. They have a flat screen with a bigger top that fits nicely in any book and also have a few other functions, like calculator, and I don’t know. I love it, but maybe you want something other that provide way more options. I like to look up words as I read, and the newer ones have more words than my first one. I’m hoping to like it even more.

@Trillian someone might have recommended a flat knife, etc.

I use theatrical film for bookmarks. I used to make them from old trailers. Go to a movie theater and ask if the could spare any old trailers. We would give them out all the time since sending them back was a huge pain in the ass. We had garbage cans full of them and were always willing to give them out to people that wanted them.

I use Post-Its. A tiny Post-It sticker will do, but a bigger one gives me a place to write little notes if for some reason I prefer not to write in the book itself. They don’t fall out. Or at least, they don’t until they’ve been repositioned a lot of times. For a big book and a long trip, I might stick a couple of extras inside the front cover so they’re available when one wears out.

@Jeruba Ah! You beat me to it! I also use them to make tabs for books so I can mark many pages in something like phone directory or catalog. The tiny ones work well for that purpose.

Clip Rite Clip Tabs are a combination of card stock and paper clips, so they’re sturdier than post-it notes, but you can still write on them.

Bi-clips rather interesting.

Or, you could save concert tickets, train passes, postcards, etc. from vacations, trips, etc, and laminate those.

How about a not too snug fitting elastic band.
