Can you name an invention that affects your day, but you never think about?

Asked by CMaz (26303points) March 9th, 2010

This is a stop and think question.
When I get up in the morning I never wait for the coffee to finish brewing. On the bottom of the coffee drain is a stopper.
Stopping the coffee from pouring once the pot is removed.

Great invention, otherwise my morning would include cleaning up the spilt coffee.

I like the pause-and-serve feature, but I think the zipper affects me more and I never think about it. Unless I get something stuck in it.

My alarm clock. it has faithfully sounded its alarm each morning, for many years. i set the alarm at night, but i never really stopped to think that it works day after day and has saved my rear from being late, many, many times.

2ND Answer.

My cars battery. i never give it the attention it needs and i do not believe any of us do, either. but, we depend on our cars battery, just like our money in the bank. there is no more of a lost feeling, than to be running late for work and the car battery is dead. its one of the most dreaded let-downs on earth, especially in cold weather.

It’s my coffee cup..sipping coffee out of my hands just didn’t work for me. I’m still waiting for someone to invent a coffee fountain!

I forgot, pens with erasers are remarkable as well. Nothing more convenient than erasing ink.

@lucillelucillelucille Flirting with who? Bjork?

@Vunessuh -No…her swan dress.It’s not real!

Indoor plumbing and electricity. I take it for granted every day and give it little thought. When a hurricane or storm or something causes it all to stop, I freak out pretty hard. lol.

Plastic
Indoor plumbing
Electricity
Clothing
Language
Hot-water oil heat (actually I think about that one a lot—does that disqualify it?)
Water heaters (separate from the furnace above)

Little green circuit boards or whatever. They are in just about everything. I noticed if you take them out things don’t work. So ya definitely them.

The toilet I guess. I can’t imagine having to use a chamber pot, or having to go in an outhouse everytime I have to go. That would suck.

Books.

Reading the floor is just crappy.

Plastic is the single most best invention ever and until today I have not stopped to thank plastic. Thank you plastic, you have grown from the bowls of the oil industry to manufacturing to the condom in my wallet that I never used, to the IV bag that keeps last nights accident alive, to the cookie cutter your mom used to create all those memories, to the stint my father has inside of him, to the bottom of my entire car and the gas tank inside of it, to the housing on my computer and to the housing on my camera…Plastic, you’ve been there for me and I just wanna say thank you. You will never rust, you’re pretty good at heat resistance, you come in so many colors…Come here plastic, gimme a hug.

It’s pretty damn cold up here with it, too, but that’s another story…

3rd Answer. Fuel for vehicles. i never really think about gas pumps without any gas. i am thinking about it now. what a lost feeling it would be, to pull up to a gas pump and nothing came out of the nozzle. i have taken this for granted that gasoline would always be there. i am rethinking this now.
