Anyone know some good beaches on the eastern coast of FL?

Asked by patg7590 (4608points) March 11th, 2010

The less touristy the better, I know “secret” or “secluded” might not be possible but any beach that is on the east shore will do. We will be living in Winter Park and just looking for a place to escape to.

Any other great places near there I should know about are also welcome!

Thanks Jellies!

The state park in St Augustine has beautiful sugar white sand. It is a tourist town but if you are there off season (when I go) it is wonderful.

Well, it a’int a secret but Ft. Lauderdale has incredible beaches. Heck, from Miami all they way up past West Palm are incredible. wish I was going….

Sebastian Inlet. You can camp there too. With a camper. :-)

And a few secluded beaches on A1 A between Sebastian and Vero Beach.

@patg7590 – Welcome to the east coast. My Mom lives in Winter park.

When I lived in Winter Park. I would go to the state park just North of Kennedy Space Center. Playinda Beach. You can get so close to the space shuttle from this park you can hit it with a rock. And, the north end is a nude beach.

I second Sebastian Inlet. Also, if you like to camp you can camp at Jetty Park near Cape Canaveral. I imagine you can access the beach there without camping, I just always camped. It’s just like Cocoa Beach, which is very close, but without the hotels, bars, and associated tourists.

New Smyrna is a little over an hour away from Winter Park (just past Daytona I believe)... I went to college at UCF and would take weekend trips there. We also went to Cocoa (which may be west coast, can’t remember) like 3 times a week and I loved it there.

@ChazMaz GA! but can you expand on “with a camper”?

I don’t believe you can pitch a tent. But the south Jetty is set up for campers, pop-up and the likes of.

There is a wonderful stretch of unspiled beach between Crescent Beach and Marineland. There are state parks on the inland side and it is not at all built up.

@Samantha_Rae Cocoa is the closest beach to Winter Park and Orlando. it is on the East Coast.

Think about getting away to the West Coast of Florida. it is not much farther from Winter Park than the East Coast and is much more beautiful. Lovers Key State Park is exactly what you describe.

“the West Coast of Florida” “is much more beautiful.”

I disagree. But the west coast beaches are nice too. :-)

I would have to say the Pan Handle has the nicest beaches.

I know you asked about the Atlantic side, but if you can, go to the Gulf side (western side). The beaches are much more lovely.

I agree with @thriftymaid

The gulf coast water is much calmer and warmer. Sanibel Island, Naples, St. George Island, PCB . . .

It depends how far north or south you are!
