Are the Alienware Laptops worth the money?

IME no. You can find all the parts in an alienware elsewhere for much cheaper and build a custom comp. Most of what your paying for with alienware is the name and a little alien badge on your comp

Not in my opinion. For that kind of money, I’d just do the research and build one from scratch to my specifications. I’d just be 100% sure everything is compatible.

There are so many other great gaming laptops out there, that you wouldn’t have to build yourself (if you are anything like me and have limited knowledge on the subject) and would see performance that is more than up to scratch.

Alienware used to be a cutting edge company back when it was privately owned but ever since they sold out to Dell !! They are just Dell PCs with a custom shell !

I’d rather have a desktop, gaming laptops are typically heavy, low battery life ( < 3 hours) for even basic computing), and HOT, which equals higher risk of component failure in addition to a fighter jet taking off in your lap.

Building a laptop, like a white box solution? Those look pretty crappy. I’d buy off the shelf over those any day.

@iam2smart99037 not really on the Franken-puters . . . unless you’re a big fan of recycling or refurbishing, which is what they are. I don’t even know if they’re cost-effective in the long run. It’s a nice business niche though that they have created, but I don’t see it becoming a welterweight.

Im confused as to why my answer is invalid for a laptop. Even if you arent personally putting it together yourself, there are sites where you can pick each custom component and make a far superior gaming laptop than an alienware.

I am aware that toward the end of the article it says that building a laptop yourself may not be practical for all hardcore gamers, but I am inclined to believe that one could be economically built for less than a comparable Alienware laptop.

@iam2smart99037 . . . that’s really interesting. . . but still doesn’t address the original post. I’m sorry, but mass -production is generally much cheaper than custom made things, and that includes laptop computers. You yourself admit that the article is discouraging, but still believe in your conviction outside of industry experts’ opinions. . . and since you cited computershopper.com as your resource, let’s take a look at what they consider as one of the top 5 Gaming Laptops, and under $1,260 to boot as tested.

I came to this thread to put in my two cents about Dell’s onwership of Alienware now but I see @Pretty_Lilly beat me to it. Consider that sentiment seconded.
