How do I get iTunes to go to the beginning of the track?

Asked by kevbo (25672points) March 18th, 2010

It used to be when I single-clicked the forward and back buttons on either side of the play button, that I would a) skip to the beginning of the next track and b) skip to the beginning of the current track, respectively. Now, for some reason it skips to the next track and previous track where those tracks left off playing. In other words, if I’ve been skipping around listening halfway through a bunch of tracks, I’m “stuck” skipping forward and back to those halfway points unless I drag the scrubber back to the beginning of each track (or hold the fwd and back buttons to FF and rewind).

This is annoying. How do I fix it so it navigates like it used to?

Thanks!

what happens if you use the up and down arrows/left and right arrows on your keyboard?

Up and down just scroll through the tracks (and highlight the next track in blue.

Left and right function like the fwd and back buttons do currently.

Well… I think I figured out a part I should have mentioned that probably makes a difference… I’m working with a playlist of sound cues and have manually created custom start and end times (so I’m not playing the full track in most of the time, nor am I starting from the beginning). Looks like maybe iTunes takes that as a sign to behave differently. Grrr. Anyway, if anyone can confirm or deny whether that’s fixable, lemme know.

Okay… found another dealie. Under “Get Info” and “Options” there’s a box marked “remember playback position,” which for some reason was check on at least one of the tracks. That’s probably what the problem was. Thanks anyway.

Normally if you double click the song (playing or not) it starts at the beginning of the song.

Ah… this seems to be a side effect of exporting a “podcast” from GarageBand. It automatically selects “remember playback position.” I’ve been creating my SFX as podcasts in GarageBand. Mystery solved, I think.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that happening. Glad you were able to figure it out on your own!
