Police encounter: what would have happened if there hadn't been any snow on the ground?

Asked by YoKoolAid (2424points) March 18th, 2010

I was walking back from the gas station, a police car drove up and stopped me on the side walk. He asked me what I was doing, I told him, he claimed: “I saw you go up a couple driveways, I thought you might be trying to break into cars, we’ve had a few reports recently” I said: “I’m not sure what you think you saw, I didn’t deviate from the sidewalk at all” .....“Put your hands on the car sir” ...He checked me for weapons and put me in the back of the police car. He drove back to the driveways he thought he saw me go to, got out twice with his flashlight to check for footprints and found nothing. He said, “well everything checks out, you’re free to go”.

No footprints, no evidence, I didn’t do anything wrong. But what if there was no snow to show I didn’t actually go up these driveways?

just routine hassle. if there was no snow he wouldve let you go after hassling you a bit.

Wow. Sometimes the wrong sort of person is attracted to the police force. I hope he’s in the minority. I wonder what he thought he saw, or if he really just made it up?

Probably the same result.

Try filing a complait with Police Internal Affairs. One incident of hassling won’t make a big difference but if they add up it might.

Cops are just trying to catch a car thief, not you.
Filing a complaint over this won’t get you far. Cops gett a lot of leeway.

Captain Fantasy

I agree on one complaint or even four. But eventually they add up so they are worth making.

This is why I wanted to answer the Q about “what do you think about the new police cars?” with the smart-ass first answer: “Too bad we don’t have new police in ‘em.”

@Trillian I seriously think he just made it up.
That’s my whole problem with this scenario- his ridiculous claim. A policeman driving along at 35mph sees a man go up and down “a couple driveways”....exactly how fast would I had to have been running to accomplish this?
