Do you spend more time with online associations than face to face contact?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) March 19th, 2010

If so, how long ago did this occur? Has it changed you in any way, for better or worse? Do you pursue online encounters because face to face encounters are rather uninteresting in comparison? What is the percentage ratio between digital and flesh friends, associates?

Face to face, always.

In college (when Facebook first came out, and was only available to college kids, mmmm) I spent LOTS of time on facebook, but it was always to see what other ppl were up to, and used for inspiration for fun nights. So whatever time I spent online, I spent more with the people I was associating with online.

And now, I’m in HR, so I deal with people so much all day that there is no way I can spend more time with ppl on the computer!

I actually get paid for face to face, so chit chatting on-line helps me chillax.

My son lives out of state and online contact, via FaceBook, has been wonderful. I can be a part of his daily experiences without being bothersome on the telephone. My estranged daughter and I have recently found a way to recommunicate online. So online contact has been very positive with family. My face to face contact time with others in my daily life greatly outweighs my online time.

I am very picky with whom I share my life, so I’ve never had an overabundance of social contacts IRL at any one time. I can enjoy parties and so forth, but have not been successful dividing my time between so many people. I love the intimacy of a few close friends. Online, I can control who I interract with, and how long. When I am tired, I can turn the computer off once I’m done ( I do make it a point to say I’m leaving, though. I try not to leave people hanging). I don’t feel as obligated to sit and listen online, as I do in real life. It’s a little fucked up, but it’s the truth.

Where I live currently, I spend more time with friends online because we’re states away and not able to hang out like before. The friends I have close by I almost never get to see because I work near 70hrs a week and spend what I have free with my partner. I look forward to us socializing together but with other couples or including and introducing our individual friends.
